Intermittent Picture Freeze - U-Verse Signal Has Been Lost

Returned from a couple weeks vacation and discovered that my U-Verse channels now freeze every few minutes.  The message screen about the U-Verse signal being lost will stay on for a couple of minutes then the picture will come back.  Or I can change the channel and the picture comes right back, but it will freeze again regardless of the channel I am on.  TV is connected to the ethernet wired receiver and gateway.  I have done the gateway reset, receiver/dvr reset, unplugged everything and restarted each in proper order . . . nothing seems to fix it.  There are no other devices in between the gateway - receiver - TV.

I ran the receivers diagnostics and it says everything is ok.  The choices for what is wrong really dont match the problem nor the "U-Verse Signal Has Been Lost" message so I dont think the diagnostic/troubleshooting system deals with this particular issue.  I have had this system for a long time and never experienced this issue before.

Thoughts/suggestions?

A typical suggestion here is to do a full home network reboot.

You look to be suffering from an interrupted signal to your Receivers.  The question at this point is where is the signal being interrupted?

Is this happening to all your devices, including those that are not wireless (or do you have any wireless receivers)?

Are you having any issues with your Internet service?

You might want to go to http://192.168.1.254/ , click on the Broadband tab and look at the tables of data (Sync rates, attenuation, Noise margin, error counts).  You can take a screen shot of those and post in a reply for us to look at to see if there's something wrong there.

Hi @RebelHodag, we are happy to help with your U-verse signal concerns.

Troubleshooting you DVR:

Check Cable Connections

  • Video Connections
  • Signal Connections
  • Power Connections

Restart/Reboot Devices

  • Power Cycle
  • Non-Destructive Recovery
  • Destructive Recovery

Note: Surge protectors & power strips may cause pixelation & freeze. Plugging the receiver directly into a wall outlet way resolve this.

Your cables may very well be the issue that causing your picture to freeze.

I'm having the same issues as RebelHodag.  This happening to all my devices (VIP2250, VIP1200, VIP1200).  I try troubleshooting with what is provided above and update this thread.

Hello.   And does that mean you’ve rebooted your home network?  We all have to do this from time to time.

gr8sho - yes, the home network was rebooted.  I remotely reset my gateway which was unpingable earlier this morning.  When I got home, the TV connected to the VIP2250 was working fine but the ones connected to the VIP1200s were not.  I unplugged both STBs and waited a few minutes.  One TV is in the bedroom in which I plugged the STB into the wall socket instead of the surge protector and turned it on.  The other STB is connected to a TV in the man cave which I plugged back into the surge protector.  I waited until both synced up and they did.  So far, no issues with all 3 TVs.

Neat!   One thing I see a lot here is suggestion to avoid surge protector with U-verse equipment, presumably because if the circuit is damaged the equipment will not perform reliably.  I do however strongly suggest use of battery backup if possible.  The main benefit is avoidance of having the settop boxes reloading their code due to power fluctuations.

I have multiple wireless receivers/ boxes (vip2500). All rooms where the devices are connected are working except 1 all of a sudden. While watching it freezes / unfreezes about every couple minutes.  I have reset the box, reconnected it, even swapped with another that is working and same happens to that one.  I am baffled at the moment why it’s just this one. Devices wireless devices connected to the TV work as well.

Please explain exactly what happened when you swapped them:  Did the problem follow the receiver that was having problems into its new room, or did the previously trouble-free receiver start having problems in the room where the other receiver was?
