cable box failure.
Is there a way to download my programs saved on the DVR before replacing it?

Sorry, but no. You will lose your recordings but not your schedule.

If the DVR needs to be replaced due to failure, then nothing could be done anyway.
In this regard, it's similar to a home computer that doesn't have a remote/cloud backup.

The box isn’t completely dead…. It just refuses to “boot”. Every two or thee weeks. Always happens when I want to watch something. This is the second box that will die with “stuff” I wanted to save. Thanks bbback!

DVRs really aren't meant for long-term storage.
