ATT Fiber How Does It Hook Up / How Many Video Streams Are Possible ???
I am extremely excited (by what they say) about ATT Fiber Gigabit service. Per their map, my city is now under way for installation in the near future.
I want to be ready when it comes. Currently, I have UVerse, ALL of my wiring is in the walls and appears at wall plates with proper connectors, no dangling wires just pushed out of a hole in the wall.
I am pretty sure that the sevice for ATT fiber does not use ethernet cables or twisted pair telephone wire which is used between the gateway and the connection at my house.
So... since the service is Fiber, is the connections between gateway , set top boxes, DVR and the Connection between the gateway and the connection point to my house fiber ??
I really need to know this because this is a big job and if true, I want to start now getting all fiber cables run.
PS
This is the closest forum I can find to ask this question.

The fiber will run to the outside of your home. Then a jumper/patch cord will be run to your AT&T router location for service. All of the existing wiring to the STB's will remain. 6 HD streams is reported to work with fiber.

What is this "Patch Cable" ???
Is it a ethernet cable, is it twistwed pair? , is it Coax ? Remember, I want to have all cabling already run inside my walls and ready to hook up the day the installer shows up. I really need to know this.
Currently, I can stream 4 HD channels. For all of this hype and fanfare for Fiber, I only get two more HD streams ???
It sounds to me like the fiber cable will connect to a Optical Network Terminal located at the point of connection to the house. Then, I am guessing that a coax cable runs from there to my "Gateway" and from my gateway to all of the Set Top Boxes is still ethernet??

Thanks for the reply, it has answered many questions.
I was hoping for a more significant number of HD video streams, 4 to 6 seems very much incremental.
I know now that I need to have power available for the ONT, but what kind of power? Do I need a 120 volt AC outlet?
Also,
What is the new data speed for the internet, I belive that it is 1 Giga BIT, not BYTE ?? which, to me, translates to 125 MegaBytes
I just ran "SppedOfMe" and I am getting 24mbps, so I guess I can expect an increase of 5x
