Return U-verse tv and internet equipment after disconnect

I submitted a disconnect order for my U-verse tv and internet but was not told what to do with all the equipment.  I called back in and was told to simply take the equipment to a UPS store and give them my account number and they’d know what to do with it.  I cannot believe that to be true.  Anyone know what I’m really supposed to do with the tv boxes and router?
