Red x with number 1 appears on screen. All resets and reboots have been tried including the disaster recovery process. I tried to call and spent 20 minutes on hold before I gave up.

Don't mess with old people. The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.
RED X 1... do you have a LINK light ON the receiver...
From memory RED X1 is no connection detected, if have NO LINK light this may be the issue. Check connections between the receiver and gateway.
If you perform a recovery process, did you see 1 gear with loading bar, going to 2 gear. If the bar graph is loading you have a connection to the gateway. No graph loading suggests connection issue.
