DVR record options aren't showing up and cant record any live tv

I recently joined uverse and got just a basic tv bundle but since day one i havent been able to record anything.  Pressing the button on the remote doesnt do anything and when i try going into the info page and recording from there, the recorded tv options arent there at all.  I've done all the reboots and customer support has even sent me a new box which didnt change anything.  But ive been reading that there is a setting for turning the dvr function on/off.  Does anyone know how to turn it on/off?

If you have the U-Basic plan the reason that you can't record is that plan doesn't have a DVR.

You must have U-Family or higher package to have a DVR.
