Buffering and poor picture quality on Hi-Def Uverse Tv

My TV has been buffering the picture and generating grainy definition recently. It is wirelessly connected to the ethernet box. An ATT technician said I needed to upgrade to fiber optic so the TV would be better at Hi-Def but the ATT telephone support said that fiber optic would impact the Internet speeds more than the TV and the TV could be improved simply by hardwiring the ethernet box to the TV modem. Which is correct?

Hi There @JDup65

Poor picture quality is not a good thing deal with.  We can help with that.

The first thing to think about is your gateway.  The gateway is the brains and the heart of your service. A place to start troubleshooting is there.

What we will need to do is Reboot Gateway

Here is a good starting point:

Restarting your Wi-Fi® gateway can be a quick fix for many Internet issues. Here’s how:

  1. Unplug your gateway for 15 seconds.
  2. Remove and reinsert the battery, if you have an internal battery backup.
  3. Plug the gateway back in and wait for the lights to stop flashing.
  4. Check your connection to see if the problem is fixed.

After that you will need to reboot your wireless cable box. This next link will help you do that: AT&T Troubleshoot and Resolve

Just click on that link, then click on the TV tab and then select U-verse TV from the drop down menu. The menu should change there is icon for picture quality. You should get a sign-in pop-up. Please sign-in and run the troubleshooter.

If you need anything else, please reach back out to us.
