You can still stream from the content provider's websites, but AT&T will no longer be supporting viewing directly from their one-stop uverse.com site that attempted to make it easier for you to locate all the content from the various and sundry providers.  I'm sure this was a nightmare to develop and a royal pain to maintain, for which there are zero revenue dollars directly attached so is viewed strictly as a drag on the bottom line.  They faced issues with every new release of a browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox) or other technology used by a particular channel provider (e.g. Java, Silverlight) as well as changes by the channel providers themselves.

 

I used this occasionally and will miss it a little, but it's not a huge deal to me personally.

So there is no consideration for the folks that use Microsoft Surface or other Windows 10 based tablets and/or laptops?  This is not a customer friendly move.

I was streaming a Uverse live program on my PC earlier when I noticed a message at the top of the browser screen stating that "streaming via browser will no longer be available after October".  So, after October, how will I be able to watch Uverse on my PC?  I do not want to have to watch my little 4 inch iphone screen, while I am working!  How will I be able to achieve Uverse streaming on my Windows 7 PC?

Um, 1. Uverse is not available on Hulu

Um, yes, but the programs uverse carries are!  And if not there maybe Amazon, Netflix, Sling, and for HBO there's HBO Go and HBO Now just to name a few.  You can google for others.  Yes I know they are not free but they are still valid possibilities.

 

2. My iPhone does NOT have an HDMI port of any kind;

I only suggested it in case it did or in case you had any other mobile device that might have one.

 

3. If local channels were what I was concerned about, would I even be here asking about Uverse?

You never qualified what you were or where not interested in.  If you are so obsessed that the programs must come from uverse to view on your computer and not interested in any other possible sources then you are out of luck.  I was only suggesting possible alternate sources for the the programs uverse carries.  It would never occur to me you cared about who delivers those programs.

 

At any rate, that's the way it is.  Att is going mobile.  There's nothing we can do to stop it.

I was looking for somewhere to just give some feedback to AT&T, but there's nowhere to do that.
I believe that THAT tells you a lot in itself.

Anyway,..I just saw a notice that said that Online Streaming will no longer be available through internet browsers after October of this year.

If that's the case then I'm through with AT&T Uverse. That was really the only thing left that made having AT&T desirable.

It seems that whenever there's something that is beneficial to the customer, sooner or later, AT&T will abolish it and try to create in it's stead

something that is beneficial to AT&T.

Noticing a trend here. I imagine eventually AT&T will attempt legislation that makes subscribing to AT&T LAW. There really won't be anything you like to watch

on their service because, as you can see, what the customer wants is completely immaterial and inconsequential. 
They don't care what you want. They only care about what they need.

Keep in mind that you can still stream to your browser after Oct 31.  It's just that UVERSE.COM will no longer provide the nice consolidated view of all the channels that you can stream.  The individual channel sites (e.g. WatchESPN.com, ShowtimeAnytime.com, hbogo.com) should continue to work, as far as I've been able to learn.

If you use the dedicated provider sites like MSNBC.com for example, we are charged against our bandwidth limits.

If we don't have a PC streaming method on November 1st, I will start fighting with AT&T over my pending cancellation. I came to ATT over internet reliability issues I had with Xfinity.  since day 1 I have believed that uverse software and programming sucks.  I stream via my  2nd PC in my home office during most work periods. I'm not willing to give this up. yes, I use a windows tablet too

Yeah, so on this point of data usage, I don't ever recall seeing any messages on the browser side to indicate video traffic through that path wouldn't count against data caps the same way the rule applies to say an iOS device and using the Uverse app.  Which surely brings up a point about how important it is to not have the 1TB data cap on Uverse or any ISP connection for that matter.  Already in this billing period my usage is 1.5TB and the only explanation I can think of is I'm streaming more video over my FireTVs.

About using the individual channel apps in lieu of Uverse, sure that's an option.  But if you've ever tried doing that on a regular basis, you will be terribly frustrated by the constant authentication challenges even when you're on your own home network because of lack of single sign on.  The hits me on iOS, FireOS, etc.

Don't blame you there.  However, apparently the decision has been made that they no longer wish to spend their efforts in maintaining that web interface.  There are Android emulators that run on Windows, sounds to me like it would be a poor experience, but I know some have tried it.

To the extent this becomes an issue to use the streaming service on Windows, will have to make a call. 

I use Amazon Prime often on my ultrabook, and even though there isn't a UWS app for it, I can still use Chrome effectively to watch shows/movies.  The equivalent situation then would be to set aside tabs or shortcuts for each broadcaster, NBCSN, WatchESPN, CNN, HBO and so on, which requires a bit more effort.  In the case of Apple iOS, they have tried to build an aggregator function but it does require linking each channel app and then there's that whole authentication and entitlement bugaboo.  Perhaps Microsoft will have to build something similar. 

Directv Now is yet another option, however my first experience with the nascent service wasn't all that good.
