Moto G7 Power as a U-verse remote

Hi, all,

I'm having trouble getting my Motorola Moto G7 Power to connect to my U-verse DVR with the AT&T U-verse app. All of our other phones in the house will connect, but not this one. I've checked to make sure the DVR is in the default connection mode to allow any device on the network to connect, and I've made sure my phone is connected to our Uverse wifi. But when I try the connection process (click remote in the app, then click connect, then click next), I get one of two different error messages. One says "there has been an issue communicating with the U-verse receiver. Please check to make sure you are on your U-verse Wi-Fi." It goes on to suggest restarting the DVR and gateway which I've tried and, as a last resort, points me to the pairing instructions in the AT&T on-line knowledgebase. The other error simply says "Receiver discovery failed." It's somewhat random as to when I get one error or the other. But I always get one or the other.

Has anyone successfully paired this model phone with their U-verse DVR? Any suggestions as to what else I can try. I should also mention that I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the app on my phone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

We're happy to help you get the full experience with your U-verse TV, @kwessel!

Could you let us know what OS your Motorola is currently on? The application is only compatible with certain operating systems after specific software updates, which for Android devices would be OS 4.4 and above.

Let us know- we look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi, Donovan,

Thanks for the reply Goodness, I can't even imagine running a device with a version of Android OS that old, but thanks for checking. The Moto G7 Power is a Motorola 2019 model running the US Retail channel of Android 9, so it's definitely current. There are currently no OS upgrades being pushed out to me from my carrier. I don't think it matters, but this is the unlocked version of the phone. I'm also on the latest version of the AT&T U-verse app from Playstore.

Thank you for that information, @kwessel! This gives us a few more options to try.

The next step regarding this would be to attempt to clear the cache for the U-verse TV Application. In the app, select More > Settings > Support > Clear all Caches. From there, try logging out of the application and logging back in. If the issue persists, try re-downloading the application again.

Let us know if this gives you any results- we hope to hear back from you!

@ATTHelp Hi, Donovan,

Sorry, I thought I mentioned in the original post that I had already tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the app. That kind of makes clearing the cache and logging out and back in again moot. Reinstalling the app didn't change the behavior at all for me. Same errors once I reinstalled, logged back in, and tried to connect to the receiver.

Other thoughts?

Thanks,

Keith
