When is Faster AT&T Speed Going to be Available? - Info from the AT&T Community

Internet_Fiber.jpg

Learn why faster AT&T speeds may not be available

First thing first, AT&T is working on expanding internet service as fast as possible. Unfortunately, a lot of planning, equipment, manpower, and time factor in. When are faster speeds coming? We do not have a date. What we can do is explain why it may not be available, yet, what to look out for, and how to research your address.

Gigabit Speeds, When Is It Coming?

We are continually expanding our fiber footprint to more households every day. If you’d like to check if service is available to you now or to sign up for a notification if it does become available in the future, please visit att.com/NotifyMe . We will send you a notification via your preferred method as soon as AT&T Fiber becomes available to you.

5 Gig internet is the next evolution of internet. At this time, we are working on expanding that footprint but AT&T does not have information on which neighborhoods will get it and when. Our support teams are also unable to give timelines as they can change.

If AT&T Fiber is available, you can order now!

Note:  AT&T Internet is not available in all areas, but AT&T is working to change that! Below, you will find information explaining:

  • Why services may not be available?
  • Other AT&T internet options?
  • News about AT&T Fiber expansions?

Why AT&T Internet is not available

  1. Distance – AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service but your home cannot.
  2. Equipment is not available – To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. As above, this could mean a neighbor may have it but service was not expanded to your home. We do not have information if or when it will be. If you have 1 Gig Fiber and want to upgrade to 5 Gig, please be patient with us we work to expand that footprint.
  3. The area is not built for AT&T Internet/ Fiber – some areas are not internet ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be since installation is factor dependent as mentioned at the top of the page. Distance and equipment can also play a factor in instances like this.
  4. Another competitor services the area - This happens from time to time but it does not mean all services are not available to you. Check out other internet options below!
  5. For some internet services, what is offered during the point of sale is an estimate. Most of the time, what is offered will be installed. To determine if service is available, our techs will perform tests beforehand and let you know of any issues.

Note: AT&T has two ways to bring traditional internet to your home, via copper lines or fiber. To get Gigabit speeds, fiber is required. In order to get internet and/or higher speeds, you must be within a certain distance of the serving equipment and the equipment must be present in the area.

I see they are spraying lines, is AT&T on the way?

Maybe. Marking locations is a best practice for most outside crews. They are used to mark an area where a gas line may be or even a water line. On the other side, it could mean AT&T is going to place cable. Until cable and everything that powers internet is placed, our internal systems will not be updated. You can fill out a form, shown below, for more information.

This is not really helpful. I know what services are available at my address, I also know what services are available to my neighbors, and I know there are no technical limitations to fiber that would prevent being able to provide me the service I want.  What I want at this point (I've been trying for 6 months now to get fiber service) is someone in Raleigh who is in charge of making the decisions on the network infrastructure to contact me to discuss what needs to be done.

... request AT&T to increase DSL speed above 6 meg.  Small GA. rural community with FTTN.  AT&T copper is only ISP available.  No wireless coverage at all (although AT&T's wireless coverage map shows 4G LTE).  Techs indicate copper is very good and being < 1000 feet from the fiber we should get better than 6 meg on a single pair.  Box is not crowded.

Apparently, AT&T Customer Service sees anything above 6 meg being U-Verse and we don't qualify in our area for U-Verse.  We don't really want U-Verse  - just plain old DSL above 6 megs would be great.  It appears we are caught in a marketing lingo trap where speeds above 6 meg are viewed as U-Verse and we can't have U-Verse; therefore we can't possibly get above 6 megs.  In other words, it appears the problem is not what the hardware supports - it is what AT&T names things that is the qualifier.

Any suggestions how to approach this?  We did not get DSL out here until fairly recently by DSL standards, so we don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth.  It really is a blessing for our community.  However, if this is just "name" issue we would certainly like to pursue it.

For years AT&T has been the only hardline provider in our community.  I have had DSL for 10+years.   In the last few years our service has gotten so poor ( I pay for 6M) that I cant even stream a low res video.   I can barely work from home now.   Everyone in the community that has DSL says the same.   To make matters worse AT&T says they nolonger offer new ports for DSL OR PHONE leaving most of the community without a hardline phone and Internet.   We have no other alternative.   It is sickening because just outside our community to the south everyone has phone and DSL.   To the north everyone has Uverse and phone.   No matter what we do we cant seem to get AT&T to upgrade the infrastructure.   It is now adversely impacting our property values.  As of late a few buyers pointed directly to lack of Internet as a reason not to buy.   This is directly because AT&T will not upgrade the infrastructure to support our community.   It seem AT&T has for whatever reason singled out our community and NOT the surrounding area to leave out in the cold.   We have no other alternatives.   No cable.  And only satellite which goes out with every breath of a storm.  We desperately need more DSL ports or Uverse.   They would gain at least another 150+ customers.

Any information as to what is going on would be appreciated.

Hello,

i currently am residing in zip 75002.  I recently moved from zip 75013, which is about 5 miles away.  At my old home I had AT&T gigapower, which was amazing.  At my new home the best available is AT&T DSL, with a max speed of 18mbs down and 2 MB’s up, which is 1.8% of my former internet speed.  I have called, tweeted, facebook’ed, etc and haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone who can give me an idea of when faster service might be in the area or how to go about petitioning the right people to do so.  The area I live in is a affluent area, and one of the major complaints on local message boards and social media is about our lack of internet services.  Please help!
