Returning UVerse WAP?

I cancelled my UVerse TV but kept the internet service and phone.  I got an email requesting the return of my equipment.  The email instructed me to send the TV Receivers, remotes, the WAP, and associated power cables.

I took them to my local UPS Store, and they did not want to take the WAP.  Although my email says to return the WAP, the UPS Store had a printed flyer from AT&T saying that the WAPs don't have to be returned.  Which is it?  Right now UPS has my WAP, but they say it can't be scanned.  I don't want to be charged a $160.00 fee over the WAP and the unclear procedures for return.   The UPS Store also said, per the flyer, that the remotes were recyclables and that AT&T did not accept those back as part of my account.

Does anyone know about returning the WAPs and remotes?

I'm not surprised about the remote, really.

Do you remember what model WAP?  It could be that it's an older model they're no longer using.

It is from 2016, and is a Cisco Ven501.  There's a newer one now.  But regardless of the model, there are contradictory instructions....

From my dealings with returns, UPS has a limited set of hardware they ship back to att, and WAP is not one of them.  It’s been a few years though.   The original VEN401 I had was sent to recycling.

Yeah, unfortunately, AT&T gives very vague general instructions about what to return on the web site, and the e-mailed list is often wrong, e.g. they'll tell subscribers cancelling just Internet to return the Gateway (which they still need as well).

Since The UPS Store is acting as their agent, I'd take their word for it... especially if you can get it in writing.  Be sure to hold on to any receipts and other documentation for several months until you're absolutely sure they've properly recorded the return on your account.

Check with your local community's recycling policies.

Technological equipment may not necessarily go in with the regular household recycling (cans, bottles, newspapers) due to the computer parts. I know my city's recycling won't accept anything with cords or wires, as that stuff can get tangled in the recycling machines.

This post has nothing to do with household recycling...   It is about whether AT&T wants the WAP back - or not....

Save your tracking #'s and receipts!  at&t is notorious for 6 months later claiming you failed to return something.  I know based on experience they don't care about remotes being sent back, at least when swapping boxes(although some of the documentation will say you have to send remotes and some will say not too).  Since remotes can't be sent back out due to how disgusting they are and how quickly they wear out they are basically considered consumables.  (also sidenote if you ever have a tech out ask if he has any remotes on his truck, at&t doesn't inventory them, so they guys could care less about handing you a few shiny new ones for free, instead of paying at&t a ridiculous $25+shipping on the rare occasion the website actually has some in stock)

As for the WAP, I'm not sure. They last time I swapped mine the new model wouldn't work so a tech had to come out and swap it for an older model, and took both the original ven 401 I had and the new one, and left me with a ven501.
