I am pretty sure this would be DSL, not U-verse.

Fierce cable article is for VDSL 2 Uverse most likely, not ADSL 2+.  DirecTV has been selling Uverse Internet along w/it, so doubt if that will disappear.

W/the above, have to wonder if they are trying to bring DirecTV users to Uverse w/similar interface, etc. on new Home Media Gateway (this idea just jumped into my head). Smiley Surprised

This is just a salesman spreading FUD in order to sell his product.  If he's correct, it's entirely by accident and will likely be as much as a surprise to him as anyone.

AT&T is going to try and transition customers currently using VDSL (U Verse) for

the television product ONLY, to DirecTV...IF the customers have the ability to use a

satellite dish. IF the customer CANNOT have reception of satellite service, those customers will STILL be able to get the U Verse television products via VDSL as they have been.

The point is AT&T is trying to free up bandwidth on their VDSL U Verse for higher internet speeds and they can achieve this by reducing the number of customers on the VDSL (landline) product.

Hope that makes things clearer, but for now and the next 5 years or more AT&T is NOT getting rid of U Verse products at ALL.

I have said this a MILLION TIMES here....when it comes to calling AT&T CSR phone reps,

DO NOT EVER, and I mean NEVER trust ANYTHING they say about products, services, or especially prices or contracts.....ONLY ORDER at ATT.com ONLINE where you can be sure you will get what you order at the price you ordered it at. The phone reps are LIARS and do ANYTHING to make a sale.

An update from multichannel news:

Update: AT&T said U-verse isn’t being phased out, and provided this statement: "To realize the many benefits of our DirecTV acquisition, we are leading our video marketing approach with DirecTV. However, our first priority is to listen to our customers and meet their needs, and if we determine a customer will be better served with the U-verse product, we offer attractive and compelling options." 😉

@PotatoeGuru    @chiefdore   Nothing really new there, already posted the update that Uverse will stay around above, word for word.  Really wish it did have more news as this isn't much really so far, especially like the promos were suppossed to be getting. Smiley Surprised

@PotatoeGuru & @chiefdore,

These are both just copies of a Bloomberg article that I linked to earlier today in another thread.  There is nothing new here.  Analysts are reading tealeaves.  Maybe they're correct, maybe they're not.  AT&T is going all out to sell DIRECTV.  Keep in mind that many questioned AT&T's acquisition of what was thought of as a dying business, and they have to prove those naysayers wrong, even at the expense of another segment of the business.  AT&T has not announced that this is a strategic direction, in fact they have said the opposite.  They may have changed their minds, but this article doesn't tell me that.
