Can anyone suggest a better place to get internet and tv?

Once again, AT&T is jerking me around and raising my rate.  I am so tired of being shocked every time I get an email with the amount of my bill.  AT&T apparently has no respect whatsoever for their customers.  I am not saying that other providers do.  I switched from Comcast after more than 30 years, because they do the same thing.  I was hoping that AT&T might be different, but they are not.  I am on a fixed income, and I cannot deal with my bill being jacked up for ridiculous reasons every month.  Can anyone suggest a better and cheaper way to access the internet and to be able to watch TV on an actual TV (I can't stand watching TV on a computer monitor)?  I don't think Direct TV is any cheaper, as it was taken over for the most part by AT&T, so they will probably deal with customers in the same shady way.  I've tried to research HULU and Netflix, but I guess I am not very tech savvy, and I don't really understand how they work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
