Buh-Bye
I have been with AT&T for the last 8 years and that relationship has finally come to an end. Each year my bill increased, but customer retention had been able to offer me a good discount. I raved to my friends and family about U-verse and had never had anything less than excellent customer service... till this week.
My last promotional pricing was coming to an end so I called customer retention to see what they could offer. I had been receiving Max+ internet and U300 TV for $120! But now that price was going to go up to $175! That's way out of my budget. So what did customer retention offer? Keep U300 and downgrade my internet to Max for $135. I might have considered paying a little more for the same, but not more for less! And the customer rep wouldn't budge a cent.
So I called today to cancel. Of course they tried to offer me a deal to stay and I was interested to see if it was any better than what customer retention had offered. Nope. It was actually worse: my current package but at $150. They really didn't seem to care to hang on to me as a customer. I understand offering great deals to get new customers, but it's kind of ridiculous that so little is offered to the loyal customers that have spent thousands of dollars over the years. So Buh-Bye.

@mojoday Good luck w/the cable company or whoever. You're gonna get the 'new' customer deal, but it's gonna end after 1 or 2 years and you'll be back to where you were, paying 'regular price'. Also you get the hassle of changing providers/equipment, etc.
Do you go in and try to get a discount from Walmart or Target just because you're a long time customer? Why do you expect it from your TV/internet provider from being a long time customer?
Once again, it's not bad CS cause you didn't get what you wanted.
Chris

I see your point, but Target/Walmart don't give cheaper prices to new customers and higher prices for long time customers. They sell the same product to anyone at the same price. I don't like the business model that cable companies use and I hate having to haggle. But it is what it is. If I have to switch providers every year then so be it.

It may be necessary.
This is an industry-wide reality for consumers.

Agreed. I'd be much happier if all cable/satellite companies got rid of the introductory pricing and had no haggle pricing.

They do. For example, the Uvere package you have now is $175, no haggling necessary.
