AT&T's credit check policy

Slide1.JPG

So you’ve decided to join the AT&T/DIRECTV family! Did you have questions regarding the credit check requirement? You will find some helpful information below:

Credit Evaulation:

  • AT&T requires a credit check when ordering new Entertainment products (Wireless lines, DIRECTV, U-verse TV, Internet and Phone). The information is pulled from external credit bureaus and your AT&T service history. The results of the credit evaluation will determine if an advance payment, automatic payment or deposit is required. (Credit Management Fee).
  • Guarantors or co-signers for credit applications are not accepted by AT&T.
  • In order to consent to a credit check and service activation with AT&T, potential individual customers must meet the minimum age requirement of 18.  Puerto Rico age of consent would be 21.
  • The cost of the device and your credit evaluation will determine if a deposit is needed.

Unable to Submit to Credit Evaluation:

  • There are times when you are not able to submit to a credit check if you are an international student and/or worker and you do not have a SSN, or you are unable to provide one due to personal choice. You will be listed as having unknown credit. Depending on the service you’re signing up for a Credit Management Fee Advanced Payment is required to obtain service.

Reimbursement of Fees:

  • If a Credit Management Fee is required, a credit will be applied to the account as long as the service remains active and is in good standing.
  • If your credit rating changes to medium or low, the fee will remain on the account.

Required Fees:

  • Advanced Payment: Made in advance of order submission and applies to future bills until exhausted.
  • Autopay: Automatic payments deduct from the customer's bank account or charge each month to their credit card.
  • Credit Management Fee: A fee paid by the customer in advance of order submission.

Additional Informational:

  • A decision letter is sent within two business days if your credit is classified as Medium, High, or Unknown. In the letter you will be advised of our Customer Service contact information and information on how to obtain a copy of your credit report if a credit bureau was used in the decision.
  • The Credit Management Fee is non-refundable after the 30-day buyer’s remorse period.
  • Your first bill will have the Credit Management Fee as a One Time Charge.
  • For information regarding fees and despoits, check out our Terms of Service

Why do you have to submit to a credit check even to find out prices for your products? I called an AT&T representative just to ask about rates for internet service, and she couldn't even tell me prices without pulling a credit check. I said no thank you.

Did you check ONLINE for internet pricing?  The best deals are those found online.

1.  I'm the only skeeterintexas as far as I know.

2.  I am not an ebay employee (I'm retired)

c.  I've been attacked a time or two but I've never attacked anyone on any forum.

I'm just an old lady sittin' here minding my own business....

P.S.  If you @skeeterhunter created your name in conjunction with mine, I'm flattered.

I know, they wanted to run a credit check on me yesterday for a phone upgrade and I was even doing a one-time payment.  That's like Amazon.com or any other online company running a credit check every time you place an online order.  Unbelievable!  I thought it was fraud and discontinued the call to protect my security.

I recently signed up to uverse (less than 3 months ago). I want to add new service to that account now, do you still need to run a new credit check on me?

Which credit bureau does AT&T pull from? I have a freeze on all three so I know which one to unfreeze.

Thank you very much for responding however

your reply does not address the issue that I posted there is nothing on my credit report that’s derogatory leg pain or any liability my credit score is 752 and so why am I paying a security deposit?

I'm with @colfaxschuyler. Like many others, I have set all the credit reporting services to freeze credit checks for security reasons. Come on AT&T. If you insist on the asinine credit check just to sell your services, you need to let us know which credit bureau you/re using so that we can accommodate.

Dear AT&T,

I am ready to switch to your fiber optic internet service, but I really don't care for this credit check policy. No one else that I have services through require it. I would have to thaw my credit to switch to you.

Thanks, but no thanks,

Chris
