Using ROKU device. How to turn off directv now?

I'm a new DTVN user, using ROKU devices on 2 Tv's. Part of my experiment is to see whether my data cap is going to be an issue every month. So, how do I  turn everything off at night to ensure it quits using data. Occasionally, I  turn on the tv and see a message about whether I'm still watching . What am I doing wrong ?

After watching DirectTV NOW press the "home" key on the ROKU remote to return to the homescreen. This way you stop the app and stop streaming.

Don't just turn off your tv only, since the app will continue streaming even with the tv off. That's why you get the message "are you still watching".
