AT&T TV Now - App Over Contrast Issues with Amazon Fire TV 4K Stick

On 01/23/2020, I started a 7-day trial subscription of the AT&T TV Now app (Build 02122, Version 3.0.20202) using an Amazon Fire TV 4K stick into a 2015 Samsung UHD TV and have some display issues.

I am making a side-by-side comparison of my current DirecTV satellite service (HS17 DVR and C61K client) and the AT&T TV Now app. I'm switching inputs into the same UHD TV with the same program materials play/pause in same spot of the recordings. I find the display resolution of the app overly contrasted; whites of actors eyes are glaring and the colors are washed out. Because the AT&T TV app has no display settings, as others have suggested, I experimented with the Fire TV 4K stick settings/display/resolution settings (HDR on/off, 1080i, 1080P then upto 4K (color 8 and 10bit) without improvement.

Guide layout, DVR recording (storage on HS17=1TB and AT&T app=500GB), and remote functions aside, I think both services are suitable for my needs. However, the DirecTV satellite resolution is far superior to that of the app. My comparison includes other Fire TV Apps; Prime, Netflix (HDR wow! - Bring it on) and DirecTV subscription supported cable apps. Only the AT&T TV Now app exhibits over contrast problems.

Is AT&T working on a TV Now app version to fix contrast issues, include HDR, or be more compatible with Fire TV stick display settings? Please advise.

Hello, @Postkiddad

Thanks for reaching out with your questions about resolution and streaming issues. We are always glad to help here in the forums.

Please note that ATT TV NOW does not currently support 4K format, so when you stream. You'll want to set your resolution to 1080 or even 720 for the best results. These must be made in the TV itself or applicable applications. You cannot control the resolution from the ATT TV NOW app.

Some of your challenges may come from the model of your Samsung TV. If you are using a newer Smart TV from Samsung, it's not really meant to be used in conjunction with other streaming apps. You can click this link to see if your TV currently supports ATT TV NOW in the app store. https://www.att.com/support/article/att-tv/KM1265539

Keep us informed, let us know if this information helps to improve your streaming quality for ATT TV NOW.

Hi @Postkiddad

Is this issue observed on Recordings only or both Live & Recordings?

A&T&T TV Now app is overly contrasted (sharp) in both live and recorded programs. The issue is not present on UHD TVs with other apps on 2/3 and 4K gen Fire TV sticks. This includes DirecTV Satillite using HS17 DVR and C61K clients. I'm a DirecTV subscriber since 1998.
