Remove DIRECTV SET-TOP BOX from phone

How do I get rid of the remote control pop-up from my Samsung Android? It just started appearing last week; I did not ask for it and do not want it.

It is labeled DIRECTV SET-TOP BOX by Homebase.

But the most important question here is why in the HE!! is it being installed without our knowledge or permission in the first place?!?!

I have a work phone and this stupid app engaged my companies protection software which locked me out of everything.  My IT department told me the only way to not have it happen is to not connect to AT&T Uverse wi-fi.

It's bad enough that when you buy a phone you can't get rid of some apps the carrier pre-installed without voiding your warranty, but now internet providers can install crap behind your back...

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Apps

then select

Settings

Scroll past the list under Wireless settings to the listing under Phone.

Select Applications, 8th or so item in the listing under the Phone category.

At the top of the displayed page, select Application Manager.

Scroll way way down to the P's.

Peel Smart Remote seems to be the culprit. You need to disable this recent AT&T upgrade.

To disable the app, you can't select Force Stop so its the other option you want. You will be told to uninstall and revert back to the factory app. Tell it to do so. When it completes the action, the app will be disabled. You can always re-enable the app later if you feel you need to do so.

Its only been a half hour or so since I did this and I haven't seen the DIRECTTV SET-TOP BOX since then.

WARNING: Making modifications to software can always have unexpected results. While I do not foresee any potential problems from disabling this app, the app can always be re-enable if disabling the app should result in any features you desire being affected. Because of this, anyone who follows these instructions must do so at their own risk.

I had this same issue happen about an hour ago.  I  don't have the direct tv app anymore, I removed it, further on my Samsung I tried multiple time to force stop and disable PEEL and it wont let me. I called T-Mobile, and we cleared cache and rebooted, still didn't help.  they transferred me to Samsung in some other country, they couldn't help.   I'm on the phone with direct tv/at & T and they don't  understand what I'm saying.  To make it worse, my husband is flying in a storm right now and I cant answer my phone b/c they put this stupid thing over the arrow to swipe my finger to get into my phone!!!  THE TECHNICIANS JUST SAID THEY CANT HELP ME AND THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE.  so funny b/c I am on their FORUM.  And I told them that!!!!!!!!  They said my only option is to factory reset my phone. meaning I will lose EVERYTHING ON  MY PHONE. HOW IS IT THAT THEY CAN PUT CRAP ON YOUR PHONE WITHOUT PERMISSION IN THE FIRST PLACE, AND NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT!!!!!

Greetings Everyone that found themselves at this discussion thread.  I found myself with the same issue just this weekend however it identified itself as the "Dish Set Top Box" application and not the "DirecTV" version.  As has been mentioned, this is actually the PEEL REMOTE application that is part of certain versions of Android.  If you are using your phone to remote control any devices, it's likely the PEEL REMOTE app you're using.  The issue is multi-faceted and it appears when the PEEL REMOTE app gets an upgrade, it will at times discover your satellite receiver and decide you want it controlled through your phone.  Unfortunately the PEEL REMOTE app is a system app supplied with Android so it cannot be removed, but normally it can be 'FORCE STOPPED' and then 'DISABLED' to get the constant popup out of the way.  This is actually not an AT&T DirecTV or Dish application.

For those looking to complain or needing more assistance than this discussion thread supplies, I would recommend contacting Samsung or Android through one of their forums or various support channels.  For the record, I do not work for any of the companies referenced here and this is not intended as an endorsement of any of them.  Nor is it intended as a derogatory statement for any of those referenced.

Best of luck.
