LG B470 Questions!

Hopefully someone on here will be able to answer a few questions for me!

First can you download custom music ringtones to this phone?....like the first few minuites of you favorite song?

Also can you download a picture from your PC and save it as a background?

And can you even contect this phone to a PC to save your info or whatever like transfering pictures or whatever back and forth?

I know its a simple 3G. flip phone, but my old Nokia 6085 2G phone i could do all the above, but because of the network change being forced to retire my good old reliable Nokia.

Hope some one can answer for me!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi @AladdnSane

Thanks for posting! Wow, that’s so great to hear that your Nokia lasted all these years! Close to 9 or 10? Impressive.

Fortunately, it appears that the LG B470 has all of the features you mentioned.

Please click here to access the Device How-To Center. This will walk you through custom ringtone settings, customer wallpapers, and connecting the device to a PC.

You can also view the device User Manual here.

Hope this helps with your decision! Have a great day.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your reply, Yes the old 2g. Nokia 6085 was a good one and really still is, and if it wasnt for this AT&T network change where being forced into a 3g. phone I would keep using it!

The first link you gave me on "how to" do the things I want to do takes me to a blank AT&T support page, The ownrers manual I have and have read all over 100 pages of it...but it tells nothing about how to do that, And I even called LG and they said it could not be done, and stated you can save stuff from your phone to a PC but not from your PC to phone...but of course who knows if the person I was talking about knows anything anyway, and also they dont offer a data cable for it or even software like Nokia did to do such...But of course if it was a smartphone they would be all for helping me and every accessory you could want...But Smartphones are not for me, as I make my living on a PC all day and when I go out to get away from it all I dont want to take the internert with me, as I dont text either, I use the phone to call and recieve calls only, but I do like it personalized with my own wallpaper and ringtones and not use the crazy ones they put on there.

Anyway, If you can even help futher please let me know.

Thanx A Million!

If your computer has a Bluetooth interface you can transfer files easily between the B470 phone and computer.

I use a Mac running the latest OS (10.11.5), and I just transferred a new mp3 ringtone, and a new background picture (sized to 176 x 220 pixels) to my phone.
I also was able to copy a photo taken with the phone over to the Mac.

The Mac let me display the phone's file system, and then I could drag and drop the files between them.

You just need to activate Bluetooth on the phone and allow its name to be visible over bluetooth. Then pair the phone with the computer.

Hope that helps.

Now... what I'd like to know is if there is a way to mute the startup and shutdown sounds that this phone makes. My previous phones all had the option to silence these sounds, but I see no option on this phone.

I had a good old flip phone from 2002.  A Samsung SGH x427m.  It worked fine but it was 2G.  I only want to make phone calls.  AT&T sent me a new 3G LG B470.  The AT&T store tech helped me get started and showed me the basics.

But then she said I could take pictures now with this new phone and send them to people.  No, I explained.  I have a prepaid account.  I use this as a go phone.  Data and texting and internet access are turned off at my request.  I don’t use and don’t want all that.

But she thought I could download the pictures to my computer using a micro/usb cable and then email them.  Well I could only find how to do that using something called Bluetooth.  And I don’t think that either my Windows 7 desktop PC or my Windows 7 laptop have Bluetooth.  Both have wireless connections but I can’t find anything on either called Bluetooth.

When I plug in the usb, the message says the driver failed to load. And when I search for a driver or try to update the driver in Device Manager, I keep getting the message that a driver cannot be found.  I couldn’t find one on at LG website either.

I did use a sync/charge micro usb cable, but I think it’s for a smart phone not a flip phone.  The store clerk thought that is what I needed but it does not work.  I seem to need a driver that cannot be found.

Is it possible to transfer pictures from this LG B470 phone to a PC using a micro usb cable?  I would like to stop researching this if it simply cannot be done.

Or how do I get Bluetooth on my computer if I don’t have it?

Thank you to anyone who has the answer.

I can't answer the question concerning the USB cable since I don't have a cable to try it with. And I use a Mac rather than Windows. But I would expect it to work if you could find the right driver.

You can add Bluetooth to your computer with a usb bluetooth adapter. There are dozens to choose from, just Google "usb bluetooth adapter".

I know that Bluetooth file transfers work with this phone (see my previous post), and this may be the easier route to take.

Good luck. Smiley Happy

I have two questions--first tell me how to text--I can get to the point where you start typing the message I want to send and all I get is some strange language, The second issue I want to hook up to the Blue Tooth in my car and I have a different car than with my old phone and it gets to the point where the car is ready to pair and I found the right place on the new phone for bluetooth and nothin happens.

I only use the phone for calls and texting (only because the grandkids forced me to the texting). I was able to get along with the old phone and I didn/t want to change and you forced me.

Just wanted to say "thanks."  The Bluetooth worked only when I clicked on file sharing but I was successfully able to add a ringtone and, also, via the file display, to delete one that somehow was problematic.  Great help!

Looks like Bluetooth is the only means to transfer B470 photos to a computer, as per AT&T doc. There is a universal USB driver for LG phones that you can download from LG's support site, to install on your PC or Mac. I tried with the USB cable, with AND without the driver installed. Looks like no way USB can be used for photo transfer. And now I wonder what is the purpose of a USB connection between the B470 and the computer ?!?

I see the USB device show up as a Serial port but have no idea what if any commands are supported.  I can attach to it via a serial communications terminal program but there is no response.

I sure liked my old 2G phone that had so many more features than this new 3G LG B470.  I'd been using it for over 7 years without a problem of saving pictures, contacts, calendars, etc over USB.  Technology moves ahead, 2G to 3G, but we have moved backwards with this feature lacking phone.
