Lagging video gaming

Hello @jasonivester20, we're happy to help with information on tethering with your AT&T Unlimited plan.

Depending on the Unlimited plan you have there is a set amount of Hotspot available per line on the account. For example: Our Unlimited Extra plan offers 15GB mobile hotspot per line per month. After 15GB, mobile hotspot speed slowed to max of 128Kbps for the rest of bill cycle. After this, mobile hotspot data usage will be impacted and not fully functional. 

Although, the Hotspot is not meant to replace an Internet service. Our AT&T Unlimited Premium plan includes 50GB of mobile hotspot/tethering data per eligible line per month and may be the best fit for streaming and connecting to consoles for gaming. 

• Keep in mind: After the monthly Mobile Hotspot is used up for the month speeds can be slowed down to the maximum of 128Kbps. We recommend 200-500Mbps for gaming.

It’s easy to check your hotspot data use to manage your monthly tethering usage:

1. Go to Usage. You’ll see an overview of your data use since your last bill.
2. Select a bill period from the dropdown.
3. Find the number you want info on and look for Includes mobile hotspot data. We’ll show you how much the device has used, if applicable.
4. For detailed info, select View more usage details and choose See data, text, and talk logs.

• Set usage alerts - Get notifications when you reach specific usage thresholds.
• Every device connected or tethered to your mobile hotspot uses your plan’s data allowance.

Cellular data is a very much shared resource which means you would be subject to deprioritization and congestion at any time. It is not designed to be a substitute for home internet which should not have the same limitations.
