Not Currently Wire for Uverse

So, I am buying/moving to a house that had Time Warner Cable and is wired for cable.  From what I can tell it is not wired for a DSL type service like Uverse.  WIll ATT run the wires under the house/in the attic for free? I do not want TWC!  Thanks!

Will I lose my number at the end of my contract?

I'm currently added onto a family plan but my contract is up on the 1st of September.    I'm planning on changing service to Verizon.   When my contract is up on the 1st, can I wait until the 2nd to go and port my number over or will I automatically lose that number on the 1st?
