Why is customer service so excruciatingly awful?

My wireless, internet, and DirecTV were all under one account at att.com. I have been dealing with customer service on the phone and via chat for the past 4 months to resolve billing isssues. I have to set aside at least an hour of my time when contacting customer service.  It takes that long

Not happy
