Visual Voice Mail

Visual Voicemail just stopped working on my Samsung S 21. I have to call in to retrieve message.

Is there a way to get the visual voice mail working again?

Hi @Dardavjac, we want to help you regain access to Visual Voicemail.

This can be caused by a few things, so we'd like to try some troubleshooting options for both your device and your Visual Voicemail app specifically:

  • Visual Voicemail requires a connection to our 4G LTE data network, so let's try resetting your device in a few ways to improve your connection.
    • Power cycle your device by holding the Volume down and Side buttons, then select Power off twice. After a few seconds, turn the device back on by holding the Side button down until the screen turns back on.
    • Reset your network settings by going into your Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings > Reset settings > Reset. Be aware this will erase all your saved Wi-Fi networks, security passwords and Bluetooth devices.
  • A new feature or patch may be needed to continue using Visual Voicemail on your device, so update your phone's software to make sure you have the latest version and bug fixes.
  • This can also be caused by the Visual Voicemail app, so try troubleshooting the app specifically.
    • Clear app cache by going into the Settings > Apps > Visual Voicemail > Storage > Clear Cache. This will help improve the app's performance.
    • Force stop the app by selecting the desired app and selecting Force stop, which completely stops the app from running in the foreground or background, allowing it to restart completely when you open it again.
    • Check for app updates in the Google Play Store, as the app itself may need a patch to work again.

Please let us know if this helps, so we can continue looking into this and troubleshooting if needed.

They had to rebuild mine and my husband's voice mail and set up visual voice mail again.  2 hours on the phone

So...AT&T stopped doing real visual voicemail; you know, what you expect with transcription and all that... It still works on some phones but not S22's and the like. This is actually a great thing long term, perhaps minus some privacy issues. The reason it's great is that Apple and Google have taken over this "service" on their end and this is better service by companies that specialize in this kind of service on apps that run perfectly on their own hardware. It's also great because fairly soon that should force Verizon (I just moved our company over to AT&T Yay!) to step in line and stop charging people large amounts for something others can do much better for free, in fact, they cause Google's perfectly wonderful service to stop functioning because they want the profit center to be theirs.

It is, however, hateful when you have a Samsung device that is not yet up to speed. I have 3 devices that people are insistent about VVM and I am looking for a solution... and it looks a little grim...the software I see out there is more problematic than just buying Pixels and scrapping Samsung.  My suspicion is that Samsung will solve this problem and catch up here pretty quick. Really they must or I for sure won't buy their devices. :(

So, Visual Voicemail is gone???  I have an S22 and it just stopped working saying that I haven't allowed permissions to "Phone", but I have. What can I use in place of it?

Samsung may fix it...or they may not anytime soon. You should be able to still use the visual voicemail app...but you will have to hit the play button and listen instead of reading the transcript. AT&T apparently won't be continuing to support their app. There are other services but too expensive for too much privacy loss and other problems for my taste. Good luck.
