unlocking phones
My Samsung S10e is locked to ATT. The vendor who sold it to us was not aware, and I will not return it since it has been customized to my liking. That said, I have met all of the conditions that ATT requires , and obtained the passcode to unlock the phone. However, I was told by ATT customer service that the procedure to unlock it requires a different SIM card, as though I were moving to a new carrier. A recent statement in this forum said that the phone can be unlocked (with the code) even if we are staying with ATT (which we are). So my question is: How to unlock it and stay with ATT as our carrier?

The trick is getting the phone to prompt you for the unlock code. That happens automatically when a sim from a different carrier is inserted. Some phones have a way to force the unlock prompt without a different SIM card. I do not know if that phone has that capability, unless someone else here knows, that would be a question for Samsung.

Thanks. I will remove the sim and go through the procedure as if I were changing carriers. Worth a try.

Only way to get this phone unlocked is to insert a non-ATT sim. The system will request the passcode and it will unlock it.

Hey there, @Groucho.Marx!
We appreciate the update and want to advise that while some models of certain devices (like mobile hotspots) don't require inserting another carrier's SIM card for unlock, currently, it's likely that in order to complete device unlock for smartphones on the AT&T network, the SIM card of another carrier is required. View AT&T Device Unlock Instructions for details.
It's likely that, as @sandblaster suggested, there's a way to force the device unlock to prompt without the use of another SIM card. However, you may want to consult the device manufacturer for assistance on how to do just that.
We hope this info helps.
