Unlocked S4 hotspot isn't working with international sim
Attempting to use the hotspot I get the message "mobile data is unavailable or sim invalid"
After sending in the proper request, AT&T unlocked my old samsung s4. I wanted it unlocked because I spend a lot of time in Thailand and needed a phone to use. I purchased a dtac sim [thai network] and basic functions work. I'm able to receive and make calls, use data, etc. But the hotspot won't work! I've looked online and it seems like a lot of other people have this issue. Most of them ended up rooting their phones [not sure what that is]. I don't understand, my s4 isn't on a contract with AT&T anymore [ i upgraded to LG G3], and my hotspot worked fine before.
Any suggestions?

It sounds like there are some settings that need to be changed for the hotspot to work. If you can call and use data, the phone is unlocked. There has to be a setting wrong, or the hotspot uses a different frequency that is not supported by the foreign SIM.

Even an unlocked phone that is AT&T branded isn't going to allow the hotspot feature to work, since the firmware on the phone is checking AT&T to see if you've got a plan that allows hotspot.
