Unlock Procedure Not Working

I received the unlock code and following instructions to unlock our Galaxy J3 (2016) phone:

  1. Power off the device and remove the SIM card.
  2. Power on the device.
  3. Enter #0111*, the unlock code, and #. The device cycles off and back on.

I’ve followed steps 1 and 2 but when I enter the codes from step 3 in the phone’s dialer, nothing happens.  If I try pressing the Send key, I get a response that a SIM card is required.

Thinking that I was missing something, I took the phone and instructions to an AT&T store where the rep had the same problem.  He suggested as a Plan B that I try inserting a SIM from another carrier (which I don’t have yet) and then when the phone is turned on, I’ll be prompted for the unlock code.


Are the rep and I both doing something wrong when following the instructions?  (If not, why does AT&T send out instructions that don’t work?)

Will the rep’s suggestion of trying with a different SIM card do the trick?

Inserting a sim from another carrier is one of the requirements to unlock the phone as far as I understand

I removed the old sim card and put in new and I still can't open the unlock my device app. This is ridiculous!!!
