Unlock problem: The "Enter the device unlock code" screen does not appear on reboot
I have obtained from AT&T an unlock code for the AT&T-locked Samsung S22 I bought privately. Unfortunately, when I reboot with the Consumer Cellular SIM card, I do not receive the screen that allows me to enter the unlock code. Could it be because Consumer Cellular (as an MVNO) uses AT&T on this particular SIM card?
Thanks for any advice.

That's because Consumer Cellular uses AT&T SIM cards, so the locked phone works on CC

Thanks for your reply, and you would think that it would, but it does not work on my CC SIM card. If it did, I would not have to unlock it. I'm wondering if there is any other way to enter the unlock code.

Hello @kurtkaufman58, we can assist you with entering your unlock code into your device.
We have a great link that will help you gain AT&T unlock codes. Launch the link, select the device manufacturer and scroll to the model of your device.
If your device displays PUK2 or PUK blocked call operator, then the wrong PUK code was entered 10 or more times in a row. The SIM card is blocked and must be replaced. Contact us at 1-800-288-2020 to replace the blocked SIM card. You can also find an AT&T store to assist you with getting a new SIM card. Just enter your city state or zip code to find the closest AT&T store near you.
If you find you need additional assistance, just let us know. Thank you!

Thank you for your reply. I was able to unlock the phone by entering #7465625*638*#
in the dialer. I then received the usual screen with the "enter the unlock code" prompt. I entered the unlock code given me by AT&T. The phone indicated that it was now unlocked. However, it still does not allow my SIM card access to the network. Perhaps there is something about this particular firmware that does not allow access to the CC network. I'm baffled.

Is the unlock code you received from AT&T a 16 digit unlock code?
Do not continue to enter the code if it is not 16 digits.
Is it possible you entered the code incorrectly?
Consumer Cellular offers 2 sim card options, AT&T or T-Mobile. If they sent you a T-Mobile SIM card it would require the unlock code but it also should trigger the pop-up box when inserted into your phone. The AT&T SIM card should not trigger the pop-up, because the locked phone should work.
So the next question is unrelated to the phone, is the SIM card properly activated, has your number been ported over from AT&T?
Does your phone say no service or Sim not supported?

formerlyknownas,
Thank you for taking the time to respond in detail. As I am relatively new to this area, I wasn't sure if the alternate method for unlocking the phone actually worked. You are right in that the AT&T firmware did not seem to recognize the Consumer Cellular SIM card as being "foreign", so even after I had indeed unlocked the phone, it didn't know how to respond to it. In the end, I had to use Odin to flash the unlocked version of the software in order to proceed (or I would have had to have returned the phone). Luckily, everything is now in order and the phone is essentially identical to an unlocked version. Happy ending. Thanks again.

Hi, I have the same problem vs S21 Ultra. What software version did you use for the phone? Want to try to flash the new software.

AntonZelinskyi, the XAA variant was the one I used on the S22, I believe (the phone is not currently in my possession), that being the unlocked USA firmware. However, as I'm sure you know, you have to be very careful, and only use a compatible firmware for your region. There is more than one version of Odin as well, and depending on what firmware you are using, you may have to use one or the other version, otherwise the flash will fail. Whatever you do, make sure that multiple sources agree that you're doing the right thing. Good luck.
