Unlock instructions for Galaxy S8 Active

I've tried googling openly and within this community before asking here.

I received my unlock code from ATT support.

I'm trying to confirm the instructions, here is what I've found so far:

1. Power off the device and remove the SIM card.
2. Power up the device without a SIM
3. Press Dial (may not be required) - I'm assuming this means go to the dialpad so the sequence can be entered
4. Enter #7465625*638*, the unlock code, and #. Note: After the first *, the rest of the sequence does not display on the screen.
5. After a successful unlock, “Network Lock Deactivated” displays.

If these instructions are correct, just looking for confirmation (specially for step 3)

I don't have a new SIM card to use yet, just wanting to unlock for when I do.

Or are these the instructions?

From power on mode, go to phone dialer:

Enter:

#7465625*638*

A pop-up will appear and then enter the code ATT sent

then #

Thanks,

Tommy

Hi, @tommy99,

We understand your concern in this. The steps you have are correct if you just need to unlock your device but are not switching carriers.

Depending on how long you plan to be outside the US, you may want to look into using the AT&T Passport or the AT&T International Day Pass. However you decide, we hope you enjoy your trip!

Good evening @tommy99,

Allow us to lend a helping hand. Follow the instructions below to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S8 active:

  • Turn off your Galaxy.
  • Take the AT&T SIM out of the slot.
  • Insert the SIM from the other wireless carrier.
  • Power the phone back on. When the phone prompts, provide the unlock code that you received from AT&T.
  • Complete the remaining setup process by following the displayed instructions.
  • Start using your Galaxy normally.

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Hi @Makaela,

I don't have another SIM to use yet so will this be the problem?

I don't have access to another carrier's SIM card.

I want to unlock this phone, continue to use it with ATT, and then when I'm traveling overseas I can just pop in an international SIM and have it work. I really don't want to do this when I'm abroad and find out I'm having problems unlocking.

Thanks,

Tommy

@tommy99

The directions you posted are roughly the same.

typing  #7465625*638* To the dialer should bring up the pop up for the code.

Hello @tommy99,

We are here to help. Unfortunately, you are required to have a SIM card from another wireless carrier to complete the unlock process. The instructions provided are the only way to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S8 from the AT&T network. Thank you.

No a sim from another carrier is not required Samsung has always had a code to enter to do it.  This is the worst customer service I have seen from attcares in a while.

@Makaela you can't be serious on that I must have another carrier SIM to unlock. I really want to stay with ATT but what you are saying is that for me to unlock my phone, I'd have to consider going to another carrier to do that?

@GLIMMERMAN76  do you know the steps to unlock my phone? With the S6, (with SIM card in) I went to the dialer, enter the sequence and then the code.

With unlocking phone, there is no trial-n-error, you have to do it right.

Thanks,

Tommy

Greetings @tommy99!

Try resolving your experience by inserting another SIM card while following the recommended unlock instructions then replacing that chip with your current SIM card.

Let us know how this worked for you.

Hi @lar,

As previously stated, I do not have another SIM card to use for this. Can I walk into an ATT store and request for one to use for this purpose?

From all these responses that really does not resolve my question, I think I'm "out of luck" on this.

I'm guessing the only solution for me is to go to Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile to get one of their SIM card to unlock my phone.

I am just sad at this point,

Tommy

@tommy99

You remove the SIM card, as in the first post.  Enter the code  #7465625*638*

That code brings up the box to enter your unlock code.

This is a YouTube video, unlocking and At&t S6.  You’re making more of this than there is.

If the unlock worked, it would seem the phone is not compatible with the carrier you are using
