unable to receives twitter via short code 40404

About a month ago, both my husband and I (he iphone10se, me android) stopped received tweets via SMS. We do receive messages directly from twitter (ie passcode to login to twitter) but as far as sending and receiving tweets, nothing. When I attempt to send to short code 40404, I get message that this sms action is not available right now (I've actually not been able to send tweets for a few months, and a couple of phones, while getting the "sms action is not available" when attempted.)

I really don't like using the twitter app, as sms is much more convenient to view the tweets from family because I often don't check via the app.

Help please?

Thank you for reaching out. We'd love to look deeper into this for you.

 

For the SMS notifications for your Twitter account, we are curious to know if you made any changes recently to your settings or profile. Also, we want to know if you updated the social media application recently.

 

We recommend you login to your Twitter profile on the PC and on the left side bar, select More. Next, select Settings and Privacy and then Notifications. You can now select SMS notifications and choose your preferences.

Be sure that the number registered with your Twitter is current with your actual number.

Done, done and done. Still nothing.

Just curious that it affected both of us on the same day-different phones. Also was about the same time we added another line to our family plan. (Although the inability to send tweets via 40404 with the "sms not available at this time" message has been an ongoing issue for several months with both of us.)

Kind of weaned off twitter, but still bugs me, but not enough to do much more about it (we have much bigger fish to fry...)

From what we can gather on our end, it appears that Twitter has disabled their SMS service, as it has been unavailable for multiple customers via text message to/from 40404 for some time now.

 

However, we're unable to verify whether or not that's the case without reaching out to them directly.

 

We recommend that you contact Twitter support at the link provided for further assistance with any questions or concerns that you're having about their SMS service.

That is the case! They did turn off SMS service, just so happened to be at the same time we added a new line. A google search could have solved this for me. Too bad. That is pretty much why I started using twitter almost 13 years ago.
