Still have not received S21+ Android 13/One UI 5 update

From what I understand the S21+ Android 13/One UI 5 update has been out for a few days now and I still have not received the update. My phone is an AT&T branded model. Should I be worried that I will not get the update?

We understand you want to know when your device will receive the Android 13 update, @Pink Jazz. We're here to help shed some light on things for you.

Android 13 isn't available for your device yet. Some updates are rolled out slowly and not all devices will get them at the same time. This is a safety precaution in case of issues. AT&T released a software update for Samsung Galaxy S21 5G (G991U) / Galaxy S21+ 5G (G996U) / Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (G998U) via Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) on October 31, 2022.

Software Version Details:

  • Android version: 12
  • Security Patch Level (SPL): October 1, 2022
  • Build number:
    • SP1A.210812.016.G991USQS5CVIG (GS21 5G)
    • SP1A.210812.016.G996USQS5CVIG (GS21+ 5G)
    • SP1A.210812.016.G998USQS5CVIG (GS21 Ultra 5G)
  • Baseband version:
    • G991USQS5CVIG (GS21 5G)
    • G996USQS5CVIG (GS21+ 5G)
    • G998USQS5CVIG (GS21 Ultra 5G)
  • File size:
    • 481MB (GS21 5G)
    • 481MB (GS21+ 5G)
    • 481MB (GS21 Ultra 5G)

Refer to our support article for instructions on how to determine your current software verison and check for updates.

BTW, I tried changing the date, as well as clearing the data via ADB, no luck.

So is there a general timeframe that the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (G998U) will receive the Android 13/One UI 5.0?   By the end of November?  Mid-December?  The end of 2022?

Inquiring minds want to know...

BTW... I don't know what Android 13 was expected to do, but I noticed zero change in my phone.  Nothing new.

It just means that you'll continue to get monthly security updates through all of next year.  Then drops you to quarterly updates. :)

Curious about what the changes really are.  From what I've read, some of the changes include:

  • The notification shade layout.
  • Theming and colors.
  • Some new widget options.
  • Lockscreen customizations (some carried over from the Good Lock Lockstar applet)

There's supposed to be quite a few more, but most are buried in Settings, or behind the scenes kind of things.

There's also further app notification customizations, although they are pretty extensive already.  The one thing I'm still waiting on that BlackBerry had since the early 2000s was per app notification sound volume level settings. There are some apps that I want the notification sound to play a bit loud, while others I want a lot quieter.  So now, I have to make several copies of any particular notification sound file I might use - the original and a softer one.  Nearly 20 years later and Android still can't figure out how to set notification volume levels on a per app basis.
