Security Policy prevents use of Mobile Data(Samsung A20)

I get this message when I try to turn on mobile data. Also I get a call not sent when trying to use the phone and message not sent when trying to text. If I use the SIM card in my old phone it works fine. If I factory reset the phone it will work fine for a few minutes, then goes back to blocking the mobile network functions.

Hello @RangerofNE,

We'd be more than happy to take a closer look into these issues that you've been experiencing with your wireless service.

We'll need some more details in order for us to better assist you:

  • How long has this been going on?
  • Where exactly did you purchase this cell phone from?
  • Also, what is the zip code for the area where you're experiencing these issues?

Please let us know.

In the meantime, we recommend using our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool to fix this. Simply select your device and the issue, then follow the steps to find a solution.

We hope this helps and look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Hello, @RangerofNE,

Thank you for  that information. We're not showing a service issue within that zip code.

The A20 isn't AT&T branded, correct? You may need to change the data settings on the device. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Access Settings.
  2. Locate and select either Wireless Networks, More Networks, or Connections.
  3. Select Mobile Networks>Access Point Names.
  4. Locate and select the option to add a new APN. This is usually accessed by a + or the menu button.
  5. Program each field using the settings in the preceding link.
  6. Save the changes and select the new VPN.

Let us know if this helps.

Greetings @RangerofNE,

Thank you for reaching back.

We are curious to know where exactly you purchased the phone from. Is it unlocked to work with AT&T network? When you put in a SIM card, what error message are you getting?

Let us know so we can help further.

There is no error message when placing the SIM card into the phone. It installed some settings the first time. It is an unlocked phone. I got it from Target.

Hello @RangerofNE,

Thank you for reaching back. We think there may be a manufacturing error with the device, especially since the same SIM card worked fine on another device. It may also be a SIM card error.

We recommend you visit an AT&T store to get a new SIM card that will be compatible with your new device. If that does not work, then you can reach back to Target to see if they can exchange the device for you.

Let us know if this helps.
