Phone won't make or receive calls

Hi,  so phone won't make or receive calls but is fine with texts and internet and the rest of everything.

The bills paid

Not in airplane mode

Tried restarting

Tried airplane mode then deactivating

Removed Apps that could be fishy

Cleared my internet info

And finally just went and factory reset my phone.

And still will not make calls.

I've tried businesses and friends but just get the "can't connect" with beep beep beep beep.

My husband and kid s both have functioning phones.  However my mother in law is having the same issue on her iPhone through atnt and I have a Samsung... so...  what's going on?  Just started yesterday.

@centaurus3200

Interestingly, the *# trick works on the S10e, but not on the S10+. I can revert the S10e to 4g and make calls, but that's not what I'm paying for. Also hilarious, Tier 3 AT&T tech support doesn't know this trick (or they're unwilling to share it in hopes a sucker will just go buy a new phone). I can't believe this isn't illegal. Fortunately (unfortunately?) I have an attorney on retention for another case. I'll run this one by them.

Not sure if the "@" is actually tagging you, but I copied and pasted your username.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8
    • Purchased used on Amazon
    • Have been using AT&T with this phone for more than a year with no issues like this.
    • Pre-paid unlimited data user
  • The issue began two days ago seemingly out of nowhere.
    • I can send/receive text messages and use my data.
    • Unable to call or receive any calls.
    • Call forwarding does not work.
  • I've tried the myriad of trouble-shooting suggestions before coming across this forum and now posting.
  • There are no issues on my end.
  • I'm seriously considering becoming a T-Mobile or another provider's customer...I will have to go to the AT&T store tomorrow and see what they have to say.

@s8ilver I switched to T-Mobile today as well! Happy with everything so far. 5g works great. And monthly bill will be like 40 bucks cheaper ! T- Mobile has no issues with my unlocked Verizon S20 5g.  Started right up the minute he popped in the new little hot pink simcard!

@Blarshh0201 , sounds like you're now in the same frustrating, and confusing boat I've been in for the last week. Your phone is probably not on AT&Ts white list of compatible phones their network will still provide service for. Save yourself the hassle, and just switch to T-Mobile. You'll be glad you did. First , go on their website. Click plans, scroll down and click BYOD. You can check to see if your phone can be used with their network. Before you switch , make sure your phone is unlocked.

@thekohser   How ironic that an employee here in my town told me the exact same thing...that his coworker (and pointed at him) is having the same problem as me with his phone. 🤔  hmm. Lol!

Employees at store and advanced tech unable to solve my issue. Also, new sim card was no help either :( I wish AT&T would communicate to their staff and customers about what's going on and when/ if to expect a solution? They really do sound very quiet about this...

LG G8 is on the list of supported phones yet it doesn’t work anymore. AT&T forces me to switch and I will if this issue won’t be resolved in a few weeks.

SAMSUNG ONLY

Here is what you can try as a TEMPORARY FIX (IF it works).

Download Google Phone to your device. The stock Samsung Phone dialer has " * " code restrictions on it so may not work. Samsung (and other MFGs) builds certain code access restrictions into their dialer so you cannot make this change without another dialer.

Once you have the Google Phone installed and set as default, dial *#*#4636#*#* - this accesses an area called "Device Information". Select the "Device Information" option, then on the screen that comes up there is a down arrow menu just above the toggle buttons. Choose that drop down menu and you will see all of the various carrier radio types listed. UNTIL they get the LTE mess fixed, you MUST select one of the options that starts with either TDSCDMA or TD-SCDMA (depending on model). The best one in the SHORT TERM is TDSCDMA/WCDMA if you have that available. The TDS CDMA radio will allow you to make calls. You will not however have LTE download speeds until they fix those issues.

Fix for voice services

Enter Mobile Networks menu

For Network Mode switch it from

"Lte/3g/2g/auto"   to "3g/2g/auto"

you should be able to now make calls and still have use of mobile service

at least until the AT&T network gets updated

used on Samsung a51 unlocked

Only viable fix is flashing At&t software.

If you aren't up to it, switch to another service provider
