Phone cannot make or receive calls
I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ that I bought already unlocked at Best Buy a few years ago. I was able to receive a phone call last night, but today I can't make or receive calls. My internet, etc. work and I can send and receive texts but not calls. I called customer service from my work phone and she tried all she knew but nothing fixed it. I restarted multiple times, even tried safe mode, nothing changes. I got a new sim card. The rep used my phone to make a call and it worked. I got to the parking lot and tried to make calls but couldn't. I went back in the store and he said there's nothing else he can try. I spoke to another customer there who had an unlocked galaxy S10 doing the same and that he had to get a new phone.

Yes, I think there's a update to android 12 for the S20
But I hope that's not reason why it works because this crap phone they sent me last year is using Android 8.1 and every time I make a call. It says calling over VoLTE
What's really funny. ATT either knew about this or forgot about this because when I looked at list of phones that would work. It was last year about this time, those first two pages were not on there about checking your model number. Because I studied the list and was researching a bunch phones trying to see which one to get.
https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/pdf/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf
and crazy how it says on the first page the S20 G981U1 will work but the S10 U1 won't. Guess it has something to do with android 12.
I'm just confused why we need a special software update just to call people. I mean, that was the first thing we used cell phones for and now it's this complicated. (Edited per community guidelines)??
I'm on the family plane with my parents, my brother and my wife. Yes I know, still will the folks but it's cheaper that way.. lol But my dads been itching to switch to somebody else. We've talked about it many times this past year.
My S20 will be here tomorrow. If it doesn't work, We will probably switch to someone else.
Like you, we've been with ATT since it was Southwestern Bell.. hahaah

I wasted about 2 hours a couple of days ago trying to get AT&T to fix my Galaxy S10. They put a new SIM card in it &;tried to make a call. No luck. They restarted it several times, tried several downloads & updates, but nothing worked. I left totally frustrated. I still cannot make a call I still can't receive a call yet I'm getting charged the full amount for the monthly phone service. Seems like if I can't use my phone to make a call or receive a call, then I should get a discount on my monthly bill.

@Wildcatpat Or you could do what alot of other people are doing and switch carriers.

@Wildcatpat if you have the G973U1 - the one that has NO carrier software loaded, the only hope you have of using ATT's network is for samsung to FINALLY push android 12 to our phones... as that OS has it's own HD voice capabilities and doesn't rely on AT&T software. ATT WILL NOT support this phone for 4G. they want you to buy one from them.
or you can flash android 12 yourself using Odin.
pretty sure if you took the same phone to T mobile or verizon, it will just "work" because they won't block it on network for HD calls. meaning you do not need "special software" to make HD calls on the other networks. and if they do, it will auto download when you install a valid SIM from the respective carrier.

here you go boys and girls. if your S10 or similar phone has been bricked by AT&T... you have two choices, wait for samsung to push android 12, or do it yourself!
or the 3rd choice, leave AT&T.
