Phone cannot make or receive calls

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ that I bought already unlocked at Best Buy a few years ago.  I was able to receive a phone call last night, but today I can't make or receive calls. My internet, etc. work and I can send and receive texts but not calls. I called customer service from my work phone and she tried all she knew but nothing fixed it. I restarted multiple times, even tried safe mode, nothing changes.  I got a new sim card. The rep used my phone to make a call and it worked.  I got to the parking lot and tried to make calls but couldn't. I went back in the store and he said there's nothing else he can try. I spoke to another customer there who had an unlocked galaxy S10 doing the same and that he had to get a new phone.

It is a refurbished model; bought through WalMart.  Just arrived Wed.

Interesting it boots with att bootsplash then.  You can find firmware on XDA forums just google it and they also explain how to flash.

Sorry, I was mistaken.  It shows ATT on screen as the network.  It boots with the Samsung logo.  Investigating the firmware route...

OK. It's a long story, but the punchline is that I'm switching from H2O Wireless to Cricket Wireless. I tested it, and Cricket worked on AT&T AND Verizon s8 AND s9 phones without flashing firmware!!! The Cricket multi-line high speed unlimited costs are equal to the H2O only 6 GB of high speed plan. Cricket had a bad rap for throttling to 8 Mbps, but they stopped that last fall. I'm getting over 30 Mbps.

Back to the earlier question of flashing s8 to get H2O to work. G950U1/XAA firmware flashed to a G950U phone worked for Straight Talk, but not for H2O. Note: using the version of Odin you recommended. Odin complained that the AP file from Frija was corrupted, so I got it from SamMobile, and that worked.

The rest of the story is about the MVNO providers. The punchline is that i'm switching to Cricket....

I subscribe to H2O Wireless and was trying Straight talk too. Neither the H2O nor Straight Talk worked on the S8 (G950U) or S9 (G960U) (both were AT&T unlocked phones). Straight Talk worked on both the S8 and S9 with the U1 firmware. H2O only worked on the S9 after U1 flash. H2O did not work on the S8 after the U1 flash.

Straight Talk is more expensive than H2O, so before I switch 8 phone to Straight Talk, I thought I should shop around. I found Cricket Multiline Unlimited (two plans of 4 phones) cost actually slightly less than H2O, with high speed unlimited instead of H2O 6 GB!!! I got a Cricket SIM card, and on a whim, tried it on an unlocked Verizon S8 (G950U: without flashing it to U1), AND IT WORKED !*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!!!!

And Cricket has an unlimited plan with 15 GB of Mobile Hotspot data, for $33/mo when you do 4 phones.

@Kuna_matata - Cricket is running on AT&T network. My friend who was on cricket has the same no-call issues as I had with AT&T. They got him to buy a new phone to fix his issue.

I switched to US Mobile (Verizon) network, and it works with the S10 that AT&T refused to enable.

I hope Cricket works for you... but just saying that it might not. At least go to a cricket store to try if your phone works with their SIMs or not...

Wow. This a crazy cluster you know what. Did they check their IMEI on Cricket's IMEI checker? Any phones not on the whitelist will stop working for Cricket too.

The thing about "just switch carriers"... there's no guarantee Verizon or Tmobile will be any better. They just haven't shutdown their 3g yet.

Well, if it's Galaxy S8 or S9, then @RyanMM suggestion to flash the U1 firmware using a specific version of Odin that he recommended, also seemed to work, depending on the MVNO.

@Kuna_matata - I don't know if he checked. He had that phone on cricket until it stopped working.

It might be that Tmobile oe Verizon will have problems too. Maybe, maybe not. But we KNOW that AT&T had problems. For 6 days I was unable to make or receive calls. What if my kid had an emergency?

I had to switch. I didn't feel like I have any other options, except to pay for a new phone, and I refused to do that when I KNEW my phone worked.

I have downloaded the latest Odin software and an ATT version of the Samsung software for the A71 (and A52).  Do I just follow the instructions and flash?  Or is there something I am missing?  Don't want to rush into this too quickly.  Thanks.

Is there any way to trigger S20 5G (SM-G981U) to automatically switch CSC?  I have gotten a new SIM, factory reset, and nothing helps it trigger to AT&T.  Any ideas?
