IMS Service has stopped

My Galaxy S6 Active just did a system update the evening of 5/12/2017.  Ever since, I keep getting the message IMS Service has stopped.  Tried booting in safe mode and still get the message.  Advanced messaging is off.  Tried clearing the cache and data for messaging and contacts.  Turned off AT&T cloud backup.  Also, I can receive text messages but not send them.

Mine is doing the same thing, I can receive text but cannot send.  I wish I had not of updated my phone now that message pops up every 15 sec. and drains my battery.  Ive tried some of the fixes that I have found googling it but nothing has worked.  Anyone out there know what to do?

Hello there @Revlurch!

Although updating your phones software is beneficial, this message should not be appearing on your phone. I would also be concerned if this message was interrupting my message input and output. Let’s go over additional steps together.

You have already attempted a lot of great steps! Have you checked your Messages > Settings to ensure all services are enabled? I would also recommend turning off the settings, then turning back on. Toggling those features would refresh the message input and output.

Sometimes re-applying the software on the phone can also assist in clearing up any glitches caused by the software update. You can visit your nearest Samsung Experience to have the helpful Samsung technicians re-apply the update to your phone.

If you are still experiencing the issue, I suggest backing up and restoring your phone to factory settings. To learn how to back up and reset, please click here. Select your make and model phone > View all Solutions > Troubleshooting > Reset Device to get started.

I hope the issue is cleared up soon! Have a great rest of your week.

I factory reset my phone twice now even clear the cached and nothing work, everytime I restart the device IMS service will run lag the phone for about 1 minute before popping up the IMS service keep stopping, I have to manually go to the app and force stop, and it will turn itself back on whenever my device restart and continue the lag issue until I force stop it.

Hello @raik,

I’m glad to hear you already tried the factory reset. Have you also checked your Message app settings to ensure all services are enabled? If not, I would recommend trying this.

If this does not help, we would need to wait for an update from the manufacturer to patch the issue. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this has caused you.

I hope you have an amazing rest of your day!

I'm sorry, I forgot about this thread.  I turned off AT&T Messages Backup & Sync and Advanced Messaging and the error message went away.  No problems for the last month.

I was able to eliminate this error by removing all permissions for the AT&T Messaging app. I don't use it. I use Google Messages. I also disabled IMS Service using BK Disabler app because it was sucking up battery.
