How to unlock the country lock on unpaid phone

Recently, my entire family got an upgrade for our smartphones with an installment plan. I know that the phone needs to be paid off the get an unlock code but I need it pretty urgent. I am now outside of the US and just got a new SIM card from the country I am at right now, but it seems like I cannot use my phone because it is locked. Is there a way I can contact the agent and explain my situation so I can get the unlock code? My family has been a good customer of AT&T for decades so I wish they can provide us the code

AT&T is policy has never allowed phones to be unlocked until they were paid off unless you are active military 19 years old. I assume you are not or you would have led with that.

If you didn't purchase your phone under some sort of promotion, just pay it off. Then you can unlock it. But it may take a few days.

Or, purchase a cheap phone for local service, or pay for roaming.

they are strict on the unlocking they wont just waive the requirements because you have an urgent matter in your eyes

bottom line they wont unlock it until  its paid off, also keep in mind if paid off early there entire account will lose all the promotions

You can certainly call the international support number and ask but I’ve never heard of ATT unlocking a phone not yet paid off.

@Eduardo2311 No, no one can help you. ATT won’t unlock the phone if not paid off but only the original owner can pay it off. You can not pay it off. That is the risk of buying phones second hand. Return the phone and get your money back, if possible.

You can’t pay At&t to unlock the phone. You were scammed and ripped off get a refund.
