How to deal with an unsuccessful att device unlock request, when I no longer own that phone number

I am an international student and I have chosen att as my carrier during my couple of years in United States. And I bought a smartphone in an att store, which l was told later it is locked and I need to unlock it if I go back to my country.

I called 611 to unlock my device. The officer told me it is all set. AT&T Customer Care sent me a confirmation email on that case.

However, on that email I found that, the officer made a mistake on my phone. My phone is Samsung S9 but was mistaken as an "9.7-inch iPad Pro embedded Apple".

What's worse, when I go back to my country, I am not able to unlock it

I tried to call att international line. I tried to use "chat" on att website. They both require an att phone number.

However, I have canceled my service before I left the States, so I no longer have a valid att phone. I cannot proceed to deal with this case.

All I have is a smartphone with its IMEI number, and a confirmation email from AT&T Customer Care with my Device Unlock Request's CASE number.

Can anyone help? Appreciate.

That is not how you unlock a phone.  Unlock is processed by computer portal.

Enter as a NON customer. https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/

If you are denied, post the reason given in the email.

I tried this way in the very very beginning. But it did not worked.

The website told me that "Looks like the IMEI number you entered doesn’t match an AT&T device.", while I am pretty sure that I bought this smartphone in an att store.

So I called 611, and all the story happened after that.

Thank you anyway, man.

@habfn346

I see, been there, and actually having the exact same problem.  Difference is I’m still a customer and can call tech support.  Not an option for you of course.

Your best option is to file an FCC complaint with proof of payment for the phone.
