How to copy ATT Advanced Messages sent/receive messages from Note 4 to my computer for reading/sorting?

How do I copy to my computer both *sent* and received messages from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung SM N910A, Android 6.0.1, which was unfortunately set to AT&T "Advanced Messaging" format?

Hopefully, over two years from AT&T "Advanced Messaging", someone has found a way to copy both sent and received messages to a computer as this is needed for archiving important messages.

Hoping for a solution to this.

Hi, @David_Brinkley,

Thanks for reaching out on this. Do you have AT&T Backup & Sync on your Galaxy Note 4? With this, you can backup and save texts and share them between devices. While the app isn't compatible with desktop computers, you can use it between your phone and a tablet. The app also permits you to forward texts to email addresses.

Please take a look and see if it might work for you. Have a great week!

Thanks James for suggesting AT&T Backup & Sync. Please help me through these next steps.

1. AT&T Backup and Sync is grayed out on my Note 4, but the application says it supports Note 4. How do I get this application on the Note 4?

2. My wife understood the local AT&T folks to say that AT&T Back & Sync does not transfer the **sent** messages to the cloud for the older Note 4 because it was set unfortunately, somehow, to "Advanced Messaging". (I don't think I changed this in late 2017, but that is the source of the problems.)

3. So, AT&T Back & Sync does transfer **sent** messages to the cloud for a Note 4, unfortunately set for "Advanced Messaging"?

Transferring only received messages is not useful. We are very much needing to get both sent and received messages transferred over to our newer Note 7 (or 8).

Thanks,

David

You no longer need a PC to simply transfer your messages, @David_Binkley.

AT&T Messages Backup & Sync is available for the SM N910A if you installed a limited software update - device specific - which is no longer available. If its gray, the update was not installed.

Samsung Smart Switch is easy, designed exactly for what you need to do.
You will need to download the Smart Switch app from the Galaxy app, or Google Play Store for the old Note 4 only. Your new Note 8/9/or 10 will have the app pre-installed, located in the Samsung folder.

Here's the Samsung Smart Switch support site. Click the link and read the "FOR MOBILE APP" Requirements just to confirm and when you're ready, click Transfer content with Samsung Smart Switch for step-by-step instructions.

Once you're done please post back to keep us in the loop, and share your success. Thank you!

Thanks for your replies. Here are the on-going problems with transferring AT&T "advanced messaging" messages:

1. Samsung Smart Switch *does not* transfer the AT&T "advanced messaging" *sent* messages. You only get the received messages, which is not useful. This problem has been posted multiple places on this forum over the last two years. My wife and I also tried several times, being sure to use the latest Smart Switch. None of the *sent* messages transfer, so it's not useful.

2. Similarly, the various phone to computer transfer applications also only transfer the SMS MMS format and, again, do not transfer the AT&T "advanced messaging" *sent* messages, which is not useful.

3. AT&T backup and sync might work with "advanced messaging" messages, but this is greyed-out on my Note 4. Kenneth at AT&T replied that this software upgrade (to run AT&T back and sync) is no longer available for the Note 4.

Kenneth: Could AT&T help me and make this software update available for my Note 4, such that I can, at least, transfer "advanced message" messages between my old AT&T branded Note 4 and newer AT&T branded Note 8? Otherwise, there is no way to transfer the sent messages across two AT&T branded phones. This is really a basic customer requirement.

This has been a big problem for a number of users, including for those who need their messages for work, legal cases, or just like to find a great message of a while back. We did not select "advanced messaging" and deselecting this option will not convert the messages to the SMS MMS format needed for Smart Switch and the other transfer applications.

Still hoping for a solution to this.
