how to check imei to work on network without calling att

I need to buy a phone used. I want to buy it once and be done. what website do i put in the imei to find the exact model number as deemed by att. for example the samsung a51 has some numbers after it on the list provided by att but when you get a phone with the exact same numbers and try to activate it the att rep says that it has some more numbers not visible to the customer. I want to find that first. HOW!

If it's not an AT&T branded Android, the model number must be on the list here:

The only way to find the IMEI is to physically have the phone and look at the label, go into settings, or usually use a short code to pull up on the screen.

In any case, you can check the publicly available lists for what non-AT&T phones will be allowed with the 3G shutdown. If you need further help, what is the exact make and model of phone and is an "unlocked" version in general or unlocked from another carrier?

You don't need imei to check model number... The model number should be included in the sale info.

If shopping swappa, the US unlocked version are all U1.  (on the PDF list)
