How to change the number of rings before voicemail answers on android cellphones

We have a Samsung A11, and an Emblem U202aa phones.  Both have short ring times before going to voicemail. I would like to increase the time that the phones ring prior to going to voicemail.  I found instructions on the AT&T website as follows:

Change number of rings before voicemail answers

Voicemail messaging lets you decide how many times your phone rings before the call is forwarded to voicemail.

DETAILED STEPS

Choose from six ring settings

  1. Go to Account overview > My digital phone > Check or manage voicemail & features.
  2. On the Voicemail Settings tab, scroll to General Preferences and select Set Number Of Rings Before Voicemail.
  3. Choose a setting ranging from 1 ring (6 seconds) to 6 rings (36 seconds).
  4. Select Save.

Problem is, my Account overview does not have a "My Digital phone" link.  I have been able to find my phones in the account info, but can't find any "voicemail settings" tab other than setting up voicemail.  I spent about three hours on the phone (mostly multiple holds) while the customer service rep tried to figure it out and finally I called it quits.  Any insights or solutions would be welcomed.  I'm wondering if the number of rings can be adjusted on wireless phones.

Hi @JSev! Let's address how you can extend ringing time on your devices!

The instructions provided are not for wireless devices but for digital phones. Here is how to extend your ringing time on your wireless devices:

  1. Dial *#61# from your phone and send.
  2. On the screen that pops up, look for a line under Voice Call Forwarding that says Forwards to + followed by an eleven digit number.
  3. Write down the eleven digit number and tap Dismiss.
  4. Dial **61*+ and the eleven digit number, followed by *11*30# (if you want to have the full thirty seconds ring time; otherwise, enter less where we have 30 listed but enter it in increments of five.) There should be no spaces between the + and the eleven digit number and the *.

We hope this helps! Reach back to us if you have additional questions!

Rhoda,

Thanks very much for this.  It works!  I tried getting it changed at the local AT&T store also.  They had no clue either...said it couldn't be done.  They and the customer service folks need some training, and the website is a mess. Glad to see that someone knows what they are doing!

We are glad to hear the extended ring time instructions worked for you and we appreciate the feedback in regards to customer service and the AT&T Website. Please make sure when searching, the page on the website says 'wireless & device' to receive related information.

I used the handset Menu/Select button and scrolled down the list to set up <4 rings before answering machine picks up the incoming call.

Incoming messages won't be sent to the voicemail.

"If you choose to use an answering machine instead of voicemail, you will need to set your answering machine to pickup calls before voicemail, which is fewer than 4 rings."
