Galaxy S8+ radio not working, no signal at all

So, I was moving to a new apartment a couple days ago. Placed my phone on a bar in the moving van, and it fell. Nothing cracked, mobile service still working. For the next 4 hours I moved things in and out of the van, and service worked fine, but I was running low on battery. So, I turned the phone off. An hour later, grabbed the phone, turned it on and... no service at all. Circle with line through it where LTE bands should be. I've tried:

-Shutting phone down, waiting a min, 5 min, 30 min, hours... turning it back on, same thing.

-Rebooting phone many many times

-Trying to check wifi calling to make sure it wasn't forcing wifi only and no cellular, but there is no service, so checking even wifi calling it sits there and says "ooops, call AT&T" because there is no signal

-Resetting network settings, same issue

-Resetting phone back to factory defaults, same issue

-Looking at SIM status is tells me Voice radio is off

-Dialing *#*#4636#*#* it shows radio is off. Hitting Ping Test does not bring up the option to turn it on, and click to turn on Mobile Radio Power just moves the switch over... then it eventually moves back to off.

Not sure what else to do or try. Any ideas? It was working FINE before the drop, and for like 4 or more hours after I dropped it, then turning it off for a while, and back on and its not working at all.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for providing us an update @dallas4u!

Before seeking a replacement phone for the android, you can try out these troubleshoot steps to see if your device can still connect to the AT&T network:

  1. TURN ON/OFF CELLULAR DATA: Swipe down from the Notification bar, then select the Settings icon.
Note: Mobile data is on by default. Turning off the mobile data will not allow any data to be transferred over the wireless network. Wi-Fi access, voice function, and standard text messaging are still allowed.
  2. Select Connections.
  3. Select Data usage.
  4. Select Mobile data.
  5. Select the Mobile Data circle.
    Note:
When turning Mobile data off, you will receive a prompt. Select TURN OFF.
  6. TURN ON/OFF INTERNATIONAL DATA & MOBILE DATA: From the Data Usage screen, select International Data Roaming.

If your device is still not able to connect to the wireless network, you can also check out our self service article on AT&T How to Replace Broken Mobile Device for more information.

We hope this helps, and a have a good afternoon!

Hello, @dallas4u,

We'd love to help with this. You have the NextRadio app on your phone to access this feature, correct? Check to see if the app needs an update. If so, do it. You may want to remove and reinstall the app. Do you usually listen to the radio over headphones? The headphones also operate as an antenna. This might be caused by the headphones jack being turned just enough to not make a connection. Use the headphones on a call to see that everything is working here as it should.

If neither of these seem to be the problem, please let us know so we can investigate further.

This is not a "radio", like FM radio. This is the cellular radio that allows me to connect to cellular service, like LTE. Where it would say "4G" or LTE" or, now, "5G E" (hehehe), there is a circle with a line through it, like it is not available. When I click on About Phone > Status > SIM Card Status, it shows no Network, no signal strength, radio off.

Yes, ATTCares didn’t read your post.

Reseat your SIM card.  The S9 isn’t really a very good sim slot.  FYI, be VERY careful when slipping drawer back in!

I forgot to mention, I have taken the SIM card out, put it back in 4-5 times, and used in a Nexus 6 and Galaxy Note 4 (currently in the Note).

If it works in those phones, then R.I.P. Samsung.   Hope it’s insured.

My SIM/SD card tray is broken... cracked on the SD card part. Maybe that is it. I can try see about buying a replacement.  It was never an issue before, but that is not to say it is causing an issue when SIM is in the tray and inserted in to the phone

In case anyone cares or is still reading this, the radio FINALLY started working for a week, about, after just figuring I would put the SIM back in to the phone and try it. It worked, and has been working. I ordered a replacement SIM tray and installed it this morning and... radio is not working again. I'm trying everything I've tried before that didn't work, and waiting for chance to just happen... again. I mean, I'm not sure if I got some weird combo of troubleshooting just right for it to work again, or when I put the SIM in the SIM tray and pushed it in, it was in the absolute right position 100% and decided to work. Then, I took it out and it didn't like what I did.

Not sure. I'm still trying. I don't even want to leave the house without it working as NONE of my spare phones are worthy of not having this thing work.

Aaaaaaand... I turned it on this morning and the signal bars were back. I didn't even turn the phone off, I slid my SIM card, in tray, in to the phone, and it is working. I'm scared to even reboot it now, but SOOOO happy I don't have to use my Note 4 with dying battery right now 😄
