Galaxy s6 update to 5.1.1 fails

Hello,

Samsun Galaxy s6...The update downloads just fine.  It starts to update, reboots and tell me the installation failed.  This is the second time I've tried it.  Any ideas?

Factory reset and download the update again

Factory reset seems a bit extreme for something that should work. I have the same issue on my phone. It has failed 4x. Yet my wife's and 2 of my 3 daughters phones have updated seemlessly. Still waiting for the last of the five to update.

The only significant difference between my phone and my families is mine is encrypted and theirs are not. The last AT&T update had no issues but I wonder if that is the problem. If so, then I can see the factory reset option.

Anyone else with an encrytped phone have success updating? I have no issues with 5.0.2 so I'm not going to loose any sleep over not being able to update at this time.

Thanks ...

Same happened with me.

Factory reset was the only thing that worked after hours of troubleshooting.

I think I solved it. I had about 3gb remaining when I tried to install the update and failed. I went ahead and delete about 8gb of cached files, which freed up the device to have about 11gb. Now the update isn't failing and is progressing just fine.

If done right, at&t or Samsung should have warned that 3gb wasn't enough storage for the update. Anyhow glad I didn't have to factory reset my phone.

My phone started behaving badly so I ended up doing a factory reset. Despite the prior updates, something changed as all my default sounds, notifications and alarms reverted back to default. Also, the stock keyboard kept displaying after I unlocked my phone despite changing it.

So, I'm now on 5.1.1

Hello:

Same issue for me. Now have to wait 24 hours to try again. I freed up memory, so hopefully that will help. I will update here once complete.

Hello:

I cleared the cache, even though I had 7 GB or so of available memory. However, that seemed to do the trick. Working fine now.

I had same problem with my Galaxy S6 Edge. Clearing cache solved it. I made four attempts and failed. After clearing cache for ALL my apps (about 8G of memory) it went smooth. Good luck every one
