Galaxy S10 Plus cant make or receive calls since 2-2-2022

I have been unable to make or receive calls since 2-22-2022. I noticed no calls on Tuesday, rebooted phone, still no calls, checked for updates, none, phone was up to date, reset network settings, no calls, booted to android bootloader and cleared cache, no calls, factory reset device, no calls, put a friends sim card from different carrier, worked fine, put mine back, 1 call successful using my sim, then after 10 minutes no calls, went to AT&T store, he checked that my phones model number was on the whitelist, it was and he put in a sim card from a demo phone booted it to make sure it had initialized and authenticated correctly, inserted my SIM and made a call successfully, 10 minutes later, no calls.... it is something in the VoLTE switch that is flagging the traffic of certain devices as blocked even though it should be allowed is my only thought. Similar to firewall rules but, not being versed in how this data is managed, it is only speculation. All i know is that my S10e stopped working Tuesday, I bought an AT&T branded S10 plus on Thursday that had all the latest updates and both phones will not make or receive calls. my daughters OLD iPhone 6 that has been in a drawer for over 2 years, will make and receive calls all day long.... FRUSTRATING.

If it's AT&T branded it boots with the AT&T blue globe, yes?

What about the sim card?

You said the phone works with a different carrier?  What carrier?

To work on AT&T you must have a USA unlocked model or an AT&T model.

If you have purchased an international model or a model that came from a different service provider it will not work.

Non carrier branded, unlocked phones that will work on AT&T now that 3-g is GONE

Hey there, @jcdeuce!  We want to help. Let’s meet in a Direct Message (DM) to discuss the inability of your Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus to make and receive calls and text messages.

Please check your Direct Message Inbox for a message being sent to you. Look for the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums page.

Also, we invite you to visit Act now - 3G is gone where you will find more information about the 3G phase out. Check out the section Devices that still work. There, you will find the portal Find out if your phone will still work on our new network. It’s important to check the model numbers next to your device to make sure it’s still supported since the 3G network shutdown.

Once you know your device still works, you may need to restart your device or check the VoLTE or LTE status. Don’t see your phone make and model on the list? That means it may not work anymore. You may need to swap or upgrade to a new one.

Upgrade your AT&T Wireless Phone:

Talk and data services will only work for AT&T wireless phones and devices that support at least 4G LTE and HD Voice. Here’s how you can replace your phone:

Don’t want to replace your phone? Make sure you cancel any lines you don't use.

Don't forget to watch for the message in the DM. We want to make sure you can place incoming and outgoing calls and text messages.

Yes the phone was bought from AT&T and is model number SM-G975U. It boots with the blue globe. I was just told today the the newest version of the list shows it is not on the list any longer. (Edited per community guidelines)! Seriously, it’s an AT&T phone but it won’t work!?!?!

ok so just a follow-up question to my original post. My S10+ is a phone originally bought and paid off from AT&T and then once it was paid off had AT&T unlock it. SO it IS and AT&T phone so according to the "Service Capabilities" list it should work, BUUUT, it was unlocked by AT&T so does that mean even though its an AT&T phone, since its unlocked I have to use the "Service Capabilities for Unlocked Devices" in which case my S10+ in NOT on the list as its only the SM-G975U1 and mine is a SM_975U.... can anyone clarify this?

Your phone is an AT&T branded device, carrier unlocked.

It is not a non-carrier, unlocked. The list of service capabilities of unlocked devices does not include AT&T devices which are still eligible to work on the network.

If you look at the model number it will identify itself as an AT&T phone.

AT&T and other devices are listed here

Unlocked phones that will work on AT&T now that 3-g is gone

Just to make sure the phone is indeed an AT&T branded device and included on the list by model number, open settings, about phone.

If your phone is not correctly identified by the system, or you have an old SIM card (you indicate you replaced already) it may still not work.

That's a great question, @jcdeuce!

The reason the AT&T Samsung Galaxy SM-G975U is listed to work if it's BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) only is that the AT&T version uses our 3G network for voice calls even though it lists 4G LTE as an operating frequency.

This is true for all 4G LTE handsets and voice devices that are 3G sunset impacted and are not found among those tested and approved to work on the AT&T network after 3G is phased out.

If you want to learn how the AT&T network connects you to the things you care about most visit Benefits of the AT&T 4G LTE network.

We hope this information helps!

@formerlyknownas yes my S10+ was bought from AT&T and was carrier unlocked by AT&T. I say its AT&T branded only because that is where it was bought and thats the carrier it was locked to while under contract. as far as specific marking, it does not actually have AT&T stamped on it anywhere but the specific model number is SM-G975U.

This one worked for me as I have a "bring your own device" Samsung S10 SM973-U1 phone:

If you have a BYOD, too or a non-AT&T branded phone you probably havent got the Android 12 update. Since the bloat ware free or non-AT&T branded phones don't have the HD voice software on it VoLTE can't be activated. Therefore after the 3G shut down your phone won't be able to connect to the 4G/LTE of AT&T and call but you can text. The Android 12 update will fix that - or at least did it for me.

If you log into your account you can talk to the chat there (type operator, then technical or repair) and tell the rep there you need an Android 12 update pushed to your phone. Have your name, phone number, IMEI and SIM ID ready and they will update it via OTA. Don't let them tell you your S10 is a 3G, it is 4G and is supported due to their pamphlet. Samsung chat even told me those phones are blocked, but that's not true. Check your version from the post above, some versions may not be supported, though.

All of the reps told me they take "complete care" of the issue and "they are sorry" and "it will surely arrive" and "no worries" but...

that would be actually too easy. Techincally that was all I needed, but it took me 4 days on the chat (dont do weekends, the tech team doesnt work) and cycle through 16 (!!!) reps who promised me the update will be pushed. I just have to wait 4h... then 24h... then 24-48h... then 4h again but while on the chat again they called me and it was pushed within the call.

So, be prepared, endure the pain, keep pushing till it arrives. Ask for compensation. I got $20 courtesy for now...

I have an S10e SM-G970U1 (factory unlocked, not AT&T branded) that stopped making or receiving calls today. I was running Android 11. I checked for updates and Android 12 was offered. After updating, I can make & receive calls again.

@centaurus3200 how do you get that update when my phone won't automatically find it? I go to the check for updates and it has no updates available. I ended up doing the Samsung Broadband app fix, which seems that comment has been removed, but it worked. I have full bars in places I was lucky to have 1 bar ever since I did the Broadband fix.

@KnicKnack24 are you still on android 11?

Call or chat samsung and ask if they are going to push 12 to your phone. If not, then you either have to flash att provisioned firmware to your phone yourself or switch carriers.
