Can't receive text messages from Apple users

I cannot receive text messages from Apple users. This is a brand new phone. So frustrating. I should have purchased an apple I guess. Distraught because I need this for work.

The error is not on the part of you or your phone. Other people have to use your phone number to send and receive text messages rather than iMessage.

iMessage is an older technology dates back to 2007 when the iPhone first came out and text messaging packages were not included in cell phone service but we're an extra charge.   Apple resolve this problem by coming up with their own product which uses data instead of SMS/text.

Except for some bills and whistles it has not changed since 2007. It still uses data, but is not regular SMS.

If iPhone users do not have your phone number designated to send and receive regular SMS, the message is don't go through.

If you did have an iPhone previously, deregister from iMessage. You should notice text messages will start to come through

Hello @jcohee21, thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums. We'll be happy to help you.

Thank you for your response @formerlyknownas. Like ACE mentioned, this isn't yours or your device issue. If you can't receive texts from iPhone on Android phone, you can suggest the following solutions to the sender, whose trying to send the messages/ SMS via iPhone.

  • Turn off iMessage if the number was once used on an iPhone or deregister iMessage if you don't own your iPhone anymore. You can use Apple's tool to do so easily.
  • Check your block list and make sure you haven't blocked the iPhone number.
  • Toggle Airplane mode on and off to reset your network connection.
  • Make sure you have cellular connectivity and update the Android OS if needed.
  • Clear the Messages app cache and enable group and MMS messages.
  • Delete old texts to free up some space.

If you have any further questions, always feel free to reach out to us here.

I just had this issue a couple weeks ago. It took almost two weeks and several hours on the phone with att advanced tech services to get it fixed. I recommend calling 611 and asking for them specifically. Going to the store did me absolutely no good.
