Can I update my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in Italy?

I am very sorry you’re unable to update your Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in Italy. I completely understand your concern here. I love to have my device updated at all times as well.

 

The only restriction for AT&T to have your device software updated is it must be connected to our towers in the USA. There may be other sources who can push out the update to your phone; however, they are not supported by AT&T and may put your device at risk.

Thank you for reaching out on the Community Forums.  I can understand the importance of updating to the latest operating system.  I would be happy to help.

 

To receive over the air updates from AT&T the phone needs to be a branded AT&T phone and able to connect to the AT&T towers.  This means it is not currently possible to update a Samsung device while out of the country.

 

If you are visiting the USA or have someone you can send the phone to here, they can purchase a GoPhone SIM to update the phone with.  Another option is the Samsung Experience located inside of Best Buys in the USA.  They can flash the update onto the phone.  I hope you find a way to update your device!

So if I purchase a Gophone sim, can I upgrade from Italy or should the device be physically present in the USA?

The phone has to be physically in the USA to connect to AT&T towers.  Currently this is the only way to update the OS on Samsung devices.  I hope you have wonderful weekend!

Unfortunately I do not know anyone who lives in united states and I do not think I can go there for the moment
So I have to give up to see Nougat in my Note 5 SM-N920A
But I'm so sorry, because I know that with Android 7 I would have had an even more powerful and optimized device
I also saw Sammobile, a site can download firmware to flash with Odin, but nothing Nougat is available for all Note 5 models (SM-N920 F-P-M etc ...) but not my SM-N920A
Do not understand why this restriction?
