AT&T VoLTE and HD voice for samsung unlocked devices?

Hello AT&T I would like to know if AT&T is currently working on activating Samsung unlocked devices for VoLTE like the S9, note 9 and S10+ unlocked devices? I know there is a memo on AT&T system that they are working on activating VoLTE on all unlocked devices?

@ladybug209 Any pointers, to the "memo"?

I'm a pretty long time unlocked device user, myself, going on some 11 years now (not Samsung, but that's really beside the point here, mostly), and as far as I know, AT&T has not altered their stance, on "Advanced Features" (not so sure why they're still called that...).

I'm very curious where you heard it though, given that this would be a fundamental change, IF VoLTE implied that (eventually) Wifi call/text is coming (VoLTE is necessary for the other, but it's not true in reverse), as well.

I do understand why you're posting this now, without getting into it, fully, but all I've seen are "rumors", basically things "implied" by support and such, nothing concrete.

Memo? I don’t know about there being any sort of formal action on AT&T‘s part. There has been at least one leak on the forum that they intended to allow more unlocked phones. There are several phones which do you get voice over LTE. That doesn’t mean they will be allowed Wi-Fi calling, or equal standing with branded androids.   At this time the pixel 3, 3 xl and 3a is the only phone given anywhere near full services with AT&T

My one plus 6T does get voice over LTE, my 5T did not.

@pgrey Well if you are long time unlocked users you should know that AT&T has filed a notice of discontinuing 3G to the FCC in february 2019 and the 3G shutdown will be in Feb 2022. Due to a 3G shutdown and there are millions of wireless AT&T subscribers that are still using 3G calls, att will enable VoLTE to "all devices" by end of this year (2019) it is now a question of when they will enable VoLTE to samsung unlocked devices. This is not a rumor this is a business decision that was spread to all investors i think. you can read more on reddit about this. According to some reports the first step is for at&t prepaid to get VoLTE and since prepaid now has VoLTE they will start enabling volte to unlocked it has been on the work since last year and it is a slow roll out.

@lizdance40 Yes AT&T has been working on enabling VoLTE and wifi calling to "all phones" by end of this year. It is not a question if AT&T will enable it the question now is when are they going to enable it. It has been on the work since last year and it is a slow roll out. The memo is Unlocked Samsung S10 U1 version will get VoLTE on at&t but I do not know when.

We are well aware.  https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1324171/faq/how-will-3gnon-lte-4g-shutdown-affect-my-byod

Due to a 3G shutdown and there are millions of wireless AT&T subscribers a lot less than ‘millions’ but still a huge number.

No.  At&t is going to stop allowing new 3g device activations at the end of this year.  Any older phones will have to be replaced.  You should not expect an unlocked phone will never be given the same service as an AT&T branded phone. I have sold my one plus 5T because I don’t believe AT&T will ever allow voice over LTE on that phone.  Newer phones are getting VoLTE now.

Again.  AT&T won’t until they have to. Which may be the day before they shut 3g if they choose.  I choose to cover my butt, so I ditched the 5t for the 6t.  You have 2 years to figure out how to manage.

@lizdance40 you are very late. VoLTE on unlocked devices is already on the work but it is very slow roll out. according ot some reports there are still devices using 3G. You can search around on reddit and other who have posted this from AT&T sources. According to reports first at&t will have to enable VoLTE on their system on their accounts after that the phone support.

Says who?  Reddit?    I’m not saying it won’t happen, I’m saying that there’s no statement from AT&T that we are aware of that says any such thing. If you have an actual statement from AT&T somewhere please post it. Otherwise this is supposition, wishful thinking, a hope and a prayer -  a.k.a. fiction.

FYI any 3g phone will be excluded.   Older AT&T branded phones will be excluded. Older iPhones will be excluded.

Its already happening.  The one plus 7 pro has VoLTE.  I think the Samsung s10 series will get it BUT I do not think ATT is going to go backwards with it.  ALL new phones released will get VoLTE support from ATT..  Wifi calling that is not happening anytime in the next 2 years...  Verizon still does not allow it on unbranded devices.  And ATT and Verizon love to do the monkey see monkey do.
