Roaming in Argentina

I live in Argentina most of the year and don't use my AT&T phone there. Occasionally I need to receive a text message from my bank to confirm operations. If I turn on the phone just for that occasion, is the roaming already established and charged until I return to the USA ?

Thanks for your help

This is not a Prepaid plan.

Had to presume it was since you posted in the prepaid forum. In any event, if you have a postpaid plan then yes, your phone should automatically roam when you turn it on. Also, received texts are free so as long as you leave data roaming off, you shouldn’t run up any roaming charges unless you make calls or send texts.

Thank you so much for your concern. I didn't. realize it was the wrong forum, sorry for that. To receive text messages shouldn't I set data roaming?

@cafernan

If you turn on data roaming you will receive extra charges from AT&T for roaming outside of the USA unless you are on the unlimited Elite or Premium plan

You don't need roaming data on in order to receive a regular SMS text

Thank you so much to both, sandblaster and formerlyknownas. The intended use is to confirm bank operations from Argentina. I guess I will not since the roaming charges would be massive until I get back to the USA.
