Prepaid Plan Changes (traveling aboard)
Hi. I am currently back in my home country due to the coronavirus outbreak. This means that I will not be using my prepaid number for the next couple of months. I called AT&T just now to suspend my account and they said the only way to do it was by ending the AutoPay feature online which I did. The representative said I should be good for 4 months without getting my phone number canceled. However, I saw some of the online comments and forums said that I could only keep my number for 60 days. I am not sure which to follow. Please help

A prepaid account is automatically closed if the account balance is $0 for more than 60 days after your plan expires. Depending on what your account balance is and when it expires or your plan expires, you might have 4 months. If you can still access your account, just make sure you renew your plan or refill your account before the account is closed. To ensure the account is not closed, change to a pay per use plan and refill your account with $100. A $100 refill is good for a year and will still be there to use when you return. An alternative is a $25 refill which is good for 90 days. If you will be gone longer than that, just make sure you refill before that $25 expires. Any refill extends the expiration date of your entire balance to match the refill.
