Out of the country for the rest of the year and will not be using any PREPAID services.
I will be out of the country for the rest of the year and will not be using my PREPAID services for my phone as I have another plan. I still want to keep my number for when I return to the US in 2024, however, I do not want to be paying my current monthly expense for my plan when I will not be using it. Is there any way to keep my number without being on a phone plan, or any other minimal plan where I get very basic services so the monthly expense is a lot lower.

Unfortunately, there is no way to keep your prepaid account open without having to continue paying. A prepaid account is automatically closed if the account balance is $0 for more than 60 days after service expires. There are ways to minimize how much you pay but no way to not pay. As noted above, port your number to google voice.

You can port your number to a lower cost service (e.g. Google Voice) until you return, then port it back if you wish to resume service with AT&T.
