keep cell phone active status for extended time

Hi,

I'm wondering if AT&T do a prepaid deal where one's mobile phone is inactive (not used) but stays with active status, with a one off payment. My At&T cell phone, has been inactive but I've had an active status, as I've been out of US for 8 months. That date is about to expire but I want my account active so I can retain my cell number, when I'm back in US.

In Australia, where I am now, one can pay $30 to keep cell phone active for 12 months.

Thanks heaps

Wrong forum. This is the home internet service forum, you want the wireless prepaid forum. But to answer your question, to keep a prepaid number active, you just need to keep a positive account balance. A prepaid account is automatically closed if the account balance is $0 for more than 60 days. Since funds on a prepaid account have an expiration date, that means you must periodically add funds.

Thanks sandblaster for your info. I tried to find the prepaid forum but couldn't locate it.
